I agree. Any church who uses the pulpit to preach politics should pay taxes. We have separation of church and state for a reason. Should they decide to jump to the other side than by all means TAX em!

Obama's church is a good example. Unlike black churches all over the US that on Easter Sunday morning preached the Risen Christ, Rev Moss preached the "lynched Jerimiah Wright". His "sermon" was nothing more than a veiled effort to defend the vicious racist, sexist, vulgar words of the former pastor, spiritual mentor and close personal friend of Barack (Middle name the same as Saddam's last name) Obama.

Trinity Church of Christ has ceased to be a house of worship and should have it's tax exempt status taken away. Jerimiah Wright should be defrocked and censured by the Church of Christ for his filthy language and racist comments. Even if they were taken out of context such language has no place in a house of worship.

The study was supposed to be short term and without their consent, it was extended to over 40 years, just to achieve their goal of studying "untreated" patients - which is beyond sick.

Wives and children later became infected with the disease.
So, from this we can determine:

1. The testing identified who had the disease, but the gov. didn't tell them they had the disease, they didn't treat them for the disease when they found a cure??? and oh, by the way, wives and children got the disease.

2. Since they didn't tell the men they had syphilis or treat them, I'm assuming
they didn't bother to warn them, test or treat wives and children

I'd say that you could make a good argument that the gov. had a lot of blame for spread of the syphilis to the wives and children.

Sadly, yes. I would say these researchers were wholly responsible. Keep in mind though, just because they worked "for" the government does not mean that their actions were sanctioned "by" the government..or were accepted by those in power during those 40 years.

When the issue was researched in the 90's and the findings (report, 2nd link, in the thread above) were given to Bill Clinton, he issued a formal apology to those who survived the ordeal, their wives and kids. The survivors have recieved reparations from the US gov't. But as Clinton said "What was done cannot be undone, but we can end the silence ... We can stop turning our heads away. We can look at you in the eye, and finally say, on behalf of the American people, what the United States government did was shameful and I am sorry."

Since this incident, reforms have been brought about regarding informed consent both inside hospitals for general treatment and research oriented treatment.

I would say Wright's sermons have an undertone of asking for mistrust in the government, which is why he went a step up and accused the gov't of infecting these individuals. It appears that is about the only thing that wasn't done. (they were looking for people with advanced disease so this appears to be the truth)
