When you are to the right of even Obama on Manning, it will cause me to question all your positions.

"They have to elevate someone?"

No, "they" don't. Someone will rise on their own. It always happens. In both parties, every election.

Did some committee select Donald Trump to elevate? Or did he do it himself?

Sorry, I don't suck of the poison soup of conspiracy. The smoky back-room deals during conventions were in an era that ended long before I was born. And I'm pretty sure you are younger than I am.

Don't fall into that mess of pottage. It's bad for your mental health. Today's politicians are very adept at running their own campaigns their own way. Once they gather enough attention, it's the political machine that falls into line behind them now, not vice versa.

That's exactly how the scramble that is beginning now will work out next year. It's the same way that has been happening ever since the south deserted the Democratic party in the 1960s.

The reality is Manufactured Consent is a thing. A notorious example of manufactured consent taking place was with the Iraq War. There was even a Harvard study conducted that showed evidence of Manufactured Consent during the period when waterboarding was being reported during the Bush Adminstration.

If you think manufactured consent can't happen with presidential elections as well, then you simply can't be reasoned with and aren't worth having further discussion with.

I have a hard time using the word "elevate" when speaking of either Trump or Clinton.

Medicare for all is a confusing term and can be used in many way by politicians to appeal to different people and then wriggle out if pressed on it.

What you are meaning is Medicare available for all. That is you can buy into Medicare like any other insurance company, paying their quoted rate. You are hoping Medicare insurance is cheaper since it a non-profit insurance and has lower administrative costs. But you still have to come up with their quoted premium each month or you won't have health care coverage. You might even be able to get the employer to pay for it.

What Bernie and Warren are talking is Medicare being given for all people, irrespective of their ability to pay for it. You don't have to purchase into it. It is being funded by either payroll or VAT or tax on rich. So a person making $10/hour will pay dramatically less to get the medical insurance while someone earning $500K per year will pay a huge sum in premiums for the same coverage ( if paid for as % of income). It is a great deal for the low income people, not so great for the high earners.

I am just addressing the financial aspect of it. The morality of health care as a basic right that everyone should pay for is a different issue.

agree completely. We can look at where the dems stood 4 years ago. had J. Bush as the run away candidate with probably Christie as the next to be in line, followed by Rubio. Did the GOP elevate any of these guys? Of course not, they did, what they did on their own and trailing behind was Cruz and Trump. We need to remember we had Ben Carson making noise as well.

Right now Buttigeig as the darling of the party. He is good looking, young, not to liberal, good speaker, and the fact that he is openly gay is a plus, at this time. But he will have to convince the country that he is the one and the Dems will not be able to control what happens. So far, with a year plus before the convention we are seeing a different super star every month.

Pete Buttigeig has now moved ahead of "beh toe" in polling.

For his part, "beh toe" is visiting the heart of the Charlotte metro day, and the crowd that's coming to see him is tiny when you consider that 2.6 million live in this metro, and Charlotte city is one of the bluer areas of NC.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg is a Harvard graduate, Rhodes Scholar, Veteran of Afghanistan, 2-term Mayor of a mid-west city, very well-spoken, attractive, warm personality, Episcopalian. He’s smarter than Trump by a thousand-fold. Yes, he’s gay and married to a likable guy, who is becoming very popular on Twitter.

The thing is Mayor Pete is a good guy. He cares about the future of our country and our citizens—something Trump most certainly does not.
