You have two choices for president:

The first one has one of the longest lines of political experience in history. He is exceedingly popular in congress. He was a soldier who volunteered to defend the United States in the Navy.

The second one has no real political experience outside of Illinois. He is tall and lanky with big ears. He even lost a few of his first attempts at gaining political office. He is an excellent speechwriter and orator. He is a good attorney and has a successful law practice.

So which one would you choose?

This is a trick question because both were already Presidents of the United States. The first one is the 15th President of the United States, James Buchannan. He is the President who mired us in the Civil War by declaring the action illegal but doing nothing when the south decided to seceed from the Union. He is largely considered by historians as being the worst President in American history.

He was followed by the other man who became the 16th President of the United States: Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln is credited with the end of slavery, the end of the Civil War, and unification of the nation. He became president at a dark time when our country was deeply divided over very polarizing issues. He had no experience in Washington prior to his Presidency. He is widely considered by historians as one of the best Presidents in American History.

Which one would you prefer as your President now? We have an almost identical choice before us today between Senator Obama and Senator McCain. Could you sleep well at night if you made the wrong choice?

You do yourself a great disservice when you post this retarded topic... you want to compare Obama and McCain, then compare them on their issues and plans... going out of your way to use old presidents and saying these would be identical to the ones we have now, suggests not only ignorance but reinforces delusional thinking..

Interesting. I personally voted for Hil, I think it would be much more landmark for a women to be a nominee than a black male. But regardless, I still think it's a great day in politics. There are so many people who look up to Obama & I really truly hope he doesn't let them down. I was listening to NPR the other day & teared up a little listening to them interview people & hearing Obama. He may not have been my first choice, but I think he'll do some good. He's a fresh young voice in this country that has had to deal we/old ideas. He kinda reminds me of JFK in a way, weird as that may seem. Anyway, it's time to get some unity not only w/in this country but around the world as well. Here's hoping to a good future!

What a stupid premise.
So far in the past couple of days I have heard Obama compared to JFK and now Abraham Lincoln. I guess it just goes to show how dumb people can be.

You should write a book, I like the twist at the end. However I must disagree with several statement made: 1. Lincoln did not unify the nation, during the process of reconstruction Southerners were more bitter than ever, reconstruction ended without success and the South was handed over to Jim Crow over a polarizing issue Lincoln's initial idea of reconstruction was to send all African-Americans back to Africa, which was financially impossible, however if it was possible, Barack Obama would not be an American today. 2. Buchanan was a Democrat, Lincoln a Republican. 3. Generations you are talking about are way different back 150 years ago, we can't tell how Buchanan or Lincoln would react today to our political situation. If you wanted to compare Obama and McCain, most recent comparison are that of RFK to Obama and McCain to Bush.

Great story and serious food for thought.

So, if the South ever tries to enslave blacks and secede again, we know who will go to war to save them (and us) and who won't bother.

It certainly won't be a somewhat conservative white male.

Got it.

Thanks for that Kerby. It's important to remember what we're looking for today, we need a change in what is expected of our leadership.

McCain is not going to win this time because the mood of the country is very different, we need a shake up, we are not scared anymore, we will take a leap of faith because not taking that leap will ensure mediocrity at best.

God forbid someone should actually post something that provokes thought, they are then branded as "retarded". What a second grade insult.
