Why are people jumping on her for saying she is "tolerant"? Please don't get me wrong - I think it's a terrible word in this context, but she did not invent its use. People have been misusing this term for years now.

I think that marriage is a religious thing. I think it became a political thing when government got involved. I think that governmental part of marriage should be put to bed. what are the benefits that you get as far as marriage goes? are there tax benefits?

I'm glad both candidates said they are proponents for gay rights, yeeha...but it's time for gay people to be treated equally and it's time for the leaders of this country to stop referring to us as "being tolerated."

I can't remember "choosing" to be gay, and I guarantee heterosexuals can't remember "choosing" to be straight.

I guess I'm on the 6 bandwagon! I swang once to the 1 side but I got scared and went right back to 6.

Tolerant is what we should be of one another when we tend to disagree, disapprove or just flat out don't like one another.
She never said she would vote against or was against same sex unions. She said she didn't agree with it but would be tolerant of it..
She agreed with Biden that same sex unions deserve the same rights as traditional unions. She was against calling a same sex union marriage. No big deal.
I agree that it is too PC, but you just proved why the word "tolerant" can be very insulting. Everything you are tolerant of, you are better than or feel that you are above it. See why that word is not a good one to use in the situation then? If I am tolerant of you, then that means I think I am above you - but will tolerate your presense because I am a good person. Of course, that is just an example - I don't know you.

What is your opinion of no marriage for anyone? period. Only civil unions performed by the state will be recognized for both same sex and non-same sex couples? If they want the marriage label they can go to their church afterwards but that marriage will not be recognised by the state?

I'm not tolerant of her use of the word "Tolerant" nor of her defenders.

4000 years of a man and woman union = marriage, then during a 10 year liberal movement you want to change that definition? Sorry, it don't work that way. You have your civil unions and full legal and constructional protection, but you want to attack traditional values with "in your face" politics and attack the spiritual aspect and 4000 year traditional aspects of society. It won't happen, not in my lifetime. 80% of Americans oppose you taking over the term marriage. Have your civil union and be done with it. Nuff said!

Marriage is a contract between 2 consenting adults. It can be conducted using a pastor, priest, etc., or a justice of the peace. How do you explain all those weekend Vegas marriages? Those aren't religious at all.
There are tax benefits for sure. I can't file as "married" on the federal tax return and get a deduction. The gvt doesn't recognize it.
Also, in a lot of states, if my partner were in intensive care or were to get sick, I'm not legally related to him (how disgusting is that?), and can't "see" him.
It's discrimination, and has to stop. We need to get some wise leaders in office who aren't drooling over the oil field profits in Iraq.
