I was mistaken; the rating is slightly above / about the same as the national average.

Time to regroup , you will love it.
So, so true. Compared to almost everywhere I have been out east, Eugene is so safe. I have a friend visiting and I feel confident with her hiking and walking alone.

Live somewhere east or south of downtown, or around the valley river center or up or off coburg rd.

avoid the whittaker and downtown and immediately west of downtown. It's not terrible but not the best. And don't live out west 11th. boring, further and a little worse.

you will love it here.

Even take for example a small town I visited outside of pittsburg, too far to be a suburb. Beaver falls. I was shocked that there were what appeared to be drug dealers downtown at 7pm. It didn't seem terrible, but not quaint small town america either.

Eugene is fine.
