I am all ears for an independently verified Russian news. Russians just recently cleansed their media space of a few remaining semi objective news outlets. Russians lie, and it is not just lies, it is lies wrapped in the cynical thuggish language of a psychopath. Lying is a normal Russian mode, they have a rep for lying, and it is up to them to change that rep. But guess what? They will not. Because Russia lives according to a code of honor of a street thug (gopnik), it is not exaggeration, criminal honor code became Russian mainstream. According to the street thugs - brazen cynical lies mixed up with put downs are signs of strength and dominance.
I am assuming most stories the Russians put out are B.S. but I also strongly suspect a high % of the Ukrainian ones aren't much better.
I'm a history wonk. Name a notable war from the last three centuries and I've probably read a book or two about it. If there's one thing to take from history, it's that in war everyone lies. When killing and dying are normalized then not telling the truth doesn't seem such a big deal anymore as you'd do anything to gain an advantage over the adversary.
As the old saying goes "all's fair in love and war". Most people tend to focus on the "love" part of it, but "war" is in there for a reason.
Hon, the previous pic in my profile was of Michail Tolstych, nome de guerre "Givi" - the field commander of the People's Donetsk Republic. I put it there shortly after he was assassinated with the help of Canadian Intelligence Service. He died as he lived, a hero. And the DNR kept on fighting, honoring his name.
Now, when the Donetsk People's Republic is getting its freedom as we speak, I changed the pic and it's the former head of the DNR, late Alexander Zakharchenko, the heart and soul of his republic.
He was loved and admired by many, and he too was assassinated with the help of Canadian intelligence.
These were brave and noble people that had enough of courage to stand up for what they believed in, even if the whole world was set against them.
These lowly assassinations didn't help much at the end, and what was supposed to happen, happened at the end; the DNR is set free from the Ukrainian Nationalists ( and from NATO.)
And yes, it's likely to have a sight of their tanks and infantry carrying the red Soviet flags along with the LDNR flags, because being a blue collar region they are true socialists at heart, unlike the corporate Moscow and LGBT Washington.
When I've said that I was rooting for DNR, I meant it.
It ain't Putin's pic in my profile.
Your 'hero' was a documented war criminal who went straight to the bad place. Few outside of those in your bubble think he was brave and noble, and they certainly didn't admire any of his abusive acts. Your mileage may vary.

The Wikipedia article has interesting links to the way your hero tortured POWs. And in the interview you posted, Tolstych says he doesn't understand why he's not popular among the locals after all he's done for them.
I saw the videos. He even announces his name to make sure everyone knows who the "badass" monster is. But I'm sure you'll tell me those are fakes too, those zany Ukrainians with all their 'fake' videos that are designed to make the Russian choirboys look bad.
I am sorry but I just can't take anything you say here seriously. You've revealed yourself. And so many times, because you've made sure to cross post all the madness from the mind of the self-designated "expert" on all matters of Ukraine throughout multiple fora on CD. It's par for the course.
Yeah, back then Ukrainians were trying to write off these assassinations on Kremlin.
Now they acknowledged that they did it.

Oh THOSE "documents" lol.
Yes they hate the nationalists over there - no doubt, after what these criminal Nationalist battalions did in Donbass.
But Moscow kept track of the war crimes there - a lot of them at least.
But keeping in mind how many West Ukrainian Nazi collaborators have escaped to Canada after the WWII - they have pretty strong lobby there.

What interview?
But you wouldn't find any of it in the mainstream Canadian/Western media overall, eh?
P.S. And of course the Nationalist Battalions like Azov and Aidar were trained by the NATO instructors all these years, so when some people are asking here "what country has been overtaken by NATO," it's like...
isn't it obvious?
: to furnish documentary evidence of
// documenting their claims
// documenting gorillas in their natural habitat
