For the past 3 weeks I've noticed that I have been unusually tired and sleepy most of the time. There's days where I can be at home doing absolutely nothing, and I'll just waste the whole day feeling really tired and lazy to do anything. I'll just sit on the couch and watch TV or listen to music and sleep. This is a very unusual characteristic of me because I normally have normal to very high energy levels and I'm usually on the go working (I do carpentry), and after work I hit the gym, and I usually just sleep about a good 4-5 hours and I'm straight. I've always been like this until recently. Maybe once every week or month I'll take a day off and catch up on 8 plus hours of sleep but I've just been so out of it lately and I have FORCE myself to do any exercise or simple house task. It's like I'm dragging myself through mud.

I have a good diet and I take some caffeine but not even foods or drinks to wake me up, well uh, even do that. I don't know whats wrong with me because I even slouch at work if none of my co-workers or clients or watching. I can be extremely slow sometimes and its been killing me.

I'm thinking of going to a doctor to see what the cause may be but other than that, anyone got any ideas to what may be wrong with me? Possibly I drain myself mentally from over thinking?

Did you talked with your doctor lately? You hight have an issues with your health, like anemia or thyroid. Some medications might make you tired and sleepy. Do you sleep well and long enough? Are you anxious or depressed? Maybe you have diabetes and don't know it, or undiagnosed urinary tract infection or heart disease, or caffeine overload ?
In any case you should go and see a doctor. Sometimes simple blood test is all the doctor need for a diagnosis.

You should have a physical exam and a blood test as the problem could be anything from low thyroid to a heart problem to iron deficiency anemia. Depression can also have low energy as one of its symptoms. I hope your doctor can get to the bottom of it.

I had a very similar situation happen and it ended up being a parasite. Might sound gross but appearantly the percentage of people with parasites is huge. I got it from a mexican restaurant (i think, it was the only variance at the time), and it put me down for about a month. I saw 2 medical doctors in that time before someone recommended this to me. I went to the health food store and found a remide. What I used was called Neem, it tasts horrible but the feeling when I woke up the next day was priceless. I had to take it for 3 days but I have had no problems since. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I actually had a physical a week ago and nothing serious came up. They said my blood, urine, cholesterol were fine and I was in great health. I'm thinking this is probably a depression issue. To answer you question Elina, I sleep well I guess. I'll get up here or there but in the end I sleep well. I think I might actually have anemia because my sister was diagnosed with it and lately she's been the same way.

Another visit to the doctor to call this specific issue to the doc's attention would be a good idea. Other than that, a few possibilities come to mind:

How long have your sleeping habits been what they are now? People vary in the amount of sleep they need, but four to five hours a night sounds like too little to me. If you've gotten more sleep than this in the past, and have been going on four or five hours more recently for some time, maybe a shortage of sleep is catching up with you.

Have any habits changed? Are you eating the same amount and kinds of foods you usually have in the past? Are you getting about the same exercise? Have you gained or lost a lot of weight? Maybe your body is having trouble adjusting to a change in habits.

Have you been under an unusual degree of stress lately? Stress can take it out of you.

How old are you? Any chance that age is catching up and you need to adjust your everyday way of life?

I think some of it is the caffeine use. When the caffeine wears off, you just crash and get really sleepy and lethargic. Maybe it's time to quit drinking or eating anything with caffeine in it for a while.

But it sounds like, also, that it might be a form of anemia. Certain vitamin deficiency anemias makes someone lethargic and tired a lot. Takes some iron tablets every morning and drink plenty of water. And don't forget to exercise some during the day too.

If this has lasted three weeks, you definitely want to make an appointment to see your physician.
