If they ever stumble across a person that can talk about books, history, or mantain any cultured conversation, they would starte at them with their eyes blank and go away.

Seriously, people, if you think the most important quality in a person is "being fit"......... Im speechless.

Probably in your world "reading a book" doesnt mean anything. You probably ask "how can you ride that?". You people dont realize that you seem like Paris Hilton airheads that go to the gym all day and have nothing in your brain. Hey, if you probably watch a movie (some good movie that is, not that action airhead movies you probably watch) you would be left withouth understanding anything. I dont even mention reading a book cause you probably dont know what a book is. And no, i dont mean "100 ways to get fit" book, i mean literature. Yeah, i know, you probably have to goolge it.

And before you assume (cause thats what all your basic brain can do) im not fat, im slim and i ve been skinny all my life. I gain a bit of weight a year ago and i got it off by running this last 5 months, 4 times a week. I weight 130 and im 5´9. I also do not like to judge people for what they look on the outside. I also love reading, i am a literature major, can hold a conversation about most topics, and read, average, 10 literature books a month. In my spare time, when you guys are probably training in the gym with your little airheads.

There is more in life than fitness. MUCH more. I feel sorry for superficial and ignorant people. If you only knew that words means freedom, freedom of thought, the ability to think for yourself, the ability of not being a repeating machine that can only reproduce what the media tells them. Be fit. Train. Ok. You do.

Airheads.
LOL. Sorry chicky, there really is not much in this world MORE important than one's health/fitness. Maybe children or...........hmmmmmm........... cant really think of what is MORE important than my health/fitness. Well, maybe teaching my children the importance of being healthy/fit. But really without your health, you dont really have that much do you? Oh, and the Degree from Stanford hanging up on the wall in my office pretty much lets you know that I am more than just a fit jock.

Too bad you are not smart enough to not believe in many of the myths that are out there. You think that fit people are not well read or are dumb? You think that blondes are stupid? Black dudes have the biggest johnsons? Asians cant drive? If you believe the silly "people who are fit are ignorant" myth then you must subscribe to all the others I listed. Stupid. Put down Milton, Tennyson and Keats and pick up Darden, Weider or even Deng Meng Dao.

I just read this post too.

I'm a woman. I am an avid marathoner (training for my 5th), triathlete, and I also tap dance and do yoga in my spare time. I'm not an airhead. I think fitness is important, but not the end all be all. I do fitness, because my life is chaotic and stressful, running keeps me centered and focused.

I think both sides of this debate are making inaccurate assumptions about the other side. As long as you're happy, do whatever floats your boat...

Look, i wanna make somethings clear. Escort rider, first, that "rant" I posted wasnt directed to you. I started my post with the words "Specially some people saying being fit is "what matters the most in the world". And by some, i only refer to people that are oh so shocked that being fit isnt everyones top priority, and, mostly, not only LOOK DOWN on fat people, they bash and insult them. Just read this thread (i have read it for the one who asked) and read all over "Excersise and fitness" and "Diet and weight loss" forums and you will see there is bashing all over the place. Its like some people (and i repeat SOME people) LOVE to bash, and whenever an obese person opens a thread asking for help or question, all the fat bashers appear saying all kinds of insults. But i dont even need to repeat this, just go and read for yourself. It is everywhere and it is unbelievable. I already did a long post in another thread i read (dont remember what now, i did it a while ago, but its in my posts historial) when everyone was saying fat people were lazy and disgusting and pigs and...well, you know what i mean.

So i find it weird you say i "look down on people" when im only saying things as they are. This kind of people love to bash fat people to feel better about themselves, cause of course they need this kind of thing cause their universe is so narrow and shallow. Of course you are not like that (thats to ER) if you have a degree in french literature and all, but im talking about this nasty people that love feeling superior to everyone (mostly to "fatties") cause they train. OMG! YOU TRAIN! WHAT AN OUSTANDING HUMAN BEING YOU MUST BE!!!

And Lao, of course you are a perfect example of the people i was refering to. Superficial, dogmatic, and repeating "being fit should be numer 1 priority, yada, yada, yada". You are the kind of person that calls a woman "chick". You and I belong to different worlds and could never understand eachother.

Sorry "bro" (is that how you speak??) we speak different languajes.

The main issue is when people throw appearnace into the mix. If being fit is about health, then why throw looks into it? As if being fit can be seen from the outside. It can't. Isn't there enough proof that an overweight person who exercises can be fit too?

Fitness can be associated with looks though. A woman who is fit is generally not obese, and definitely not morbidly obese. It depends on how overweight you are. But honestly, no, I don't think someone who is overweight is technically "fit."

I was 100 pounds overweight. I know that I didn't feel fit until I was in around 10 pounds overweight (140s). Above 140, I snore, my blood sugar is high, I have hypertension, and if I exercise my exercise induced asthma is bad.

  • Looking fit and attractive is the main priority for some people. Good health is just a byproduct.
  • Some people exercise and eat right to become good at a sport not to get healthier. Good health is just a benefit.
  • Other people exercise and eat right to lose weight. Good health was never a motivation just a bonus.
  • Confidence is another reason people exercise and eat right. The fitter they look the more confident they become. Health to them is just an added reward NOT a priority.

Exactly. Everyone has different motivations for working out. It started with looks for me, to be honest. But, I realized that I am the only person in my family (regardless of age) not on some medication of some sort. That's enough motivation to keep me sweating.

I will say, in my experience, once I acheived the body that I wanted, my motivation seemed to wan. I had to find another goal, another reason to get it done everyday. Good health is one of those reasons. But, I still like looking ten years younger than my actual age.

As I've said before, whatever keeps people in the gym -the doctor or the mirror- is good enough.

So to you people it isn't about health. Finally, some admitted it.
So,to those of you who do it for looks, what would happen if obesity or overweight becomes the "in" thing to be?
Preferred body types come and go(I'm talking about Hollywood and fashion standards).
