I agree and that is why it is good.to keep a few garments around for years so you can try them on and see how they fit you years later.

.
Even 5' 4" and 140 lbs is a bit on the chubster side for a woman who is NOT a full on athletic type. Bigger than that she needs to start considering joining a gym or yoga studio or something. Or as CaptainNJ would say - stay away from the cupcakes and doughnuts.

American woman
You're no good for me
And I'm no good for you
American woman
I look you right straight in the eye
Tell you what I'm gonna do
American woman

I'm gonna leave you woman
You know I gotta go

Agreed. I think people are in denial about how fat they really are. I remember when the whole low-fat craze started (in the 80's) the average woman was 5'4 and 144lbs and was considered FAT.

I am a moderately active person. I exercise on the elliptical trainer and walk several miles a few times per week. I am just under 5'7" tall. My weight has been in the 123-130 range for most of my adult life. I am careful with my diet. I pass on a lot of foods that I would like to eat. It's not easy.

I am in my 40's. I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition and severe anemia four years ago. Since then my weight crept up to 155. I felt miserable. I tried synthroid, but I had a hard time with it. I was very frustrated with being fat. I tried calorie cutting, increased exercise, etc. Nothing worked.

Last summer, a chance conversation led me to try a modified version of the Atkins diet. I cut out all processed food. I increased my use of coconut products and added chia seeds to my diet. I no longer eat high carb foods, sugars, or wheat. I eat tons of vegetables, some protein, nuts and seeds, and natural fats. My treat is an occasional small glass or two of red wine.

My weight is back to 130....5 more pounds to go. My calorie intake is relatively high. I never feel hungry, but I do miss some of my favorite foods (sushi, chocolate, Chinese, etc). I have a cheat meal a couple of times per month. It helps keep me on the right path.

My thyroid level is back to normal. My clothes fit. People are always telling me "you weren't fat before" or "you didn't need to lose the weight", but I did need to lose it. Excess fat is unhealthy.

Fine tuning my diet and losing the excess weight has made me feel so much better.

I think 5'4 and 140 seems overweight, but it does depend on body type/amount of muscle.

Marilyn Monroe's dressmaker:
Height: 5 feet, 5½ inches
Weight: 118-140 pounds
Bust: 35-37 inches
Waist: 22-23 inches
Hips: 35-36 inches
Bra size: 36D

Marilyn Monroe was not as lightweight as some people in this thread are saying women should be, but she did have a very significant hourglass shape--that ratio I mentioned earlier--that will set most male pulses racing regardless of what the scales say.

She needs to be at 5'4" and 100-105 pounds. 35-40 pounds overweight.

Once again, weight doesn't tell the whole story. A number of other factors must be considered. Height and weight proportions are different for different women, it is not a one size fits all.

I have got to unsubscribe from this thread. 5'4" and 100-105? Yikes that's thin. That is the lower than the 5'1" stat. I suppose some people like the anorexic look.

Not me. I don't care for the real skinny look. I have a customer who likes to look at Mmaxim magazine and other similar magazines every time he comes in and sometimes it amuses me what he.finds hot and sexy. Those girls in those magazines look like they weigh 100 pounds soaking wet and they have nothing in the front or back. All I see is a pretty face but he thinks they are so hot. I disagree but that shows that se all have different preferences
