Desiree Davila finished a close second to Kenyan Carolyn Kilel in the 2011 Boston Marathon. You can see the dramatic finish here as Kilel collapsed to the pavement, while Desi put her hands on her knees for a moment and then walked off, disappointed.
A solid performance in the race but really I thought the great effort by Shalane stole the show, and, of course, by Meb in the men's race.
Hanson's seem to do a great job of getting the most from elite runners like Davila and Sell who might be overlooked by some of the big name running teams.
(Sad you did not get more responses to your post!)
Desiree finished #10 at Boston, with a time of 2:23:54. Winner was Rita Jeptoo of Kenya, with a course record of 2:18:57. Too bad, but it appears that the East African females are moving towards the same overwhelming dominance that the East African men have achieved in the marathon.
I thought that Davila might have a chance based on past performance, but was wrong.
This thread came to mind when I saw your thread about the U.S. women defeating the Kenyans in the 4 x 800. I could have this wrong, but didn't an American win the men's race in Boston this year?
