So, I want to start working out at my work gym but I'm not familiar with all the types of equipment. I have a couple workout dvd's that use weights and I'd like to use them at the gym.
My question is how silly will I look watching a portable dvd player as I workout??? :-0
You would look ridiculous. I've personally never seen someone walking around with a big DVD player learning how to use the equipment in 20+ years of going to various gyms.
Do you have a smart phone? Does your gym have good wifi? There are probably hundreds if not thousands of YouTube "how to" videos that you could use. I would watch them first, then go to the gym.
Or buy a single session with a trainer and have him/her show you each machine one by one.

Is there a trainer who is qualified at this gym to show you the equipment? if so, ask him or her to demonstrate.
Also, as mentioned by Florida, there are literally endless you tube videos on how to use various types of equipment.
i was wanting a complete workout that I could do continuously. a dvd will help me do that a few times a week. i would like to use it for barbell and dumbbell exercises with a bench, i think I would do better with a complete workout rather than going from one piece of equipment to another? there are no trainers at this gym.
You sound confused. What is a continuous workout in your mind? With just about any workout that involves weights you move from machine to machine (or bench to machine, etc.). I don't see how you could do anything continuously if you're needing to queue up some portable DVD player and sit down watching movies.

You need to concentrate on muscle groups not some continuous workout thing.
Chest, shoulders, back one day.
Bis, Tris, and Abs another day.
And leg day is a beast of its own.
Look at YouTube videos not DVDs. They are a little out of date at this point.
