Apparently she attended a parent-teacher conference yesterday wearing a baseball cap.
After the weeks/months she has had I can overlook this if it doesn't happen again. If that is her style then I suppose I will just have to learn to live with it.
As for "The Dress" it was HIDEIOUS!!!! I kept getting a glimpse of the red but getting a good look at it - YUCK!!!! And the shrug. Find a dress for an event like this that does NOT need a shrug, a sweater, a jacket, etc. She has mixed about 3-4 different fabrics and then the way the red and black played w/ each other - not good.
That pattern looks JUST like the markings on a Black Widow spider.
Black Widow.
Maybe she was trying to make a statement. Here's an interesting one---The splattered red with the giant X in front of it= the end of bloodshed?
I've read on some other forums that those colors represent anarchy/socialism. I'm from Latin America...those colors are way, way familiar. Interesting that the designer was a Latino?
I'm just giving my thoughts on this dress - I'm not trying to start any debates nor am I flaming anybody.
I think she just liked the dress or colors --wanted something different/special. The original version doesn't look much like a black widow, just a very striking dress.
Yes, Michelle could use a good stylist. She's tall and has a nice figure (well, except for the saddle bags, but lots of women my age have them, too). Why are all of her outfits so fussy. I think some custom-made or altered suits would be good for her. They don't even have to be expensive. They just need a Maximum of 2 pieces and should fit properly.
I can't believe this thread is still going. Don't people have more important things to talk about. She buys her clothes online, unlike Palin who went through $150,000 in only a few months to spend on clothes.
A woman in her position should know that she is making an impression and her clothes will be a big part of that impression. After all, she was meeting the American public for the first time as the first lady elect. She could have toned it down a little and worn something a bit more appropriate for the occasion.

That's how many American women dress, in a ball cap, sweat pants, and jacket. Nothing wrong with it. I appreciate the fact that she can go out looking natural, and think she looks fine.

Admittedly, this is true.
I'm older and I guess I associate bball caps with 'kids'. And Michelle will be the First Lady for all of us. In her position I might dress differently now. If this is the style that she prefers then I'm sorry I just don't think it is appropriate, regardless of what anyone else may think/feel.

Now, that I have to agree with. Plus, I was not posting this thread as a way to just bash Michelle O. The point was - this was a HUGE moment and Michelle had to know that pictures would be taken that will end up in history books (not just newspapers and online!). So the dress should have been something that would show up well in pictures and on stage under lights. That was my point.
As far as everyday life . . . few of us look like a fashion plate when going about our routines. However, I will say this again - Michelle is a professional woman w/ a very impressive career and a salary that is way above what most of us will ever make . . . so she can afford to have a wardrobe that is very impressive and appropriate - meaning - she should have a closet full of sharp clothing that she wears to her job as a hospital administrator. A suit - just a sharp looking suit - would have been much more appropriate for election nite than the paint-ball/black widow outfit she had on.
But as far as daily life . . . well, friends, I am sitting here in a 2 piece Velours running suit w/ socks, Hee Hee. If I had to run out right now to the post office, I would throw on a baseball cap, sunglasses and thank the universe that no one would care enuff to be taking pictures of me!!!!

With reference to the bball cap--
But, but--as you said she should have a business wardrobe and if you know that images of you will be sent around the world then you should be aware of the message you are sending.
A parent-teacher conference would seem to call for professional attire, jmo.

Well, my kids' teachers knew me quite well b/c I not only volunteered, I was a substitute teacher (last kid in college now, so this was a while in the past!!!) So if I showed up looking less than 100% professional for a conference, they would not have thought a thing about it. However, everybody knew me so I tended to be afraid to leave the house w/o full makeup and dressed to the 9s. Seems I have gotten a lot more casual in the last five years . . . I think most of the world has.
But yes, if I knew someone would be snapping pictures of me, oh heavens - can you imagine a Southern girl NOT dressing up when there are cameras around? Hee Hee.
I used to have to do tv interviews - and my hairdresser would see the film footage on the news and call me and fuss about my hair, my glasses, my make up - whatever. I just can't believe that Michelle doesn't have someone doing the same for her.
