Dark and gloomy 4 months out of the year? That's crazy talk. I know winter days where it was a blizzard and 10 below here and 70 with sunshine in Fayetteville. Or pouring rain for a solid week in the northwest and sunshine in nwa.

And most everyone who lives in Fayetteville has moved there from someplace (California) else. I too have actually lived outside Arkansas.

Again, good luck to you, be sure to visit, I think you'll love it there.

I have to agree with texrzrbak on this one. If one is susceptible to SADs or lack of sunlight (as the original poster seems to be) it can have a noticeable effect in NWA. If one is not affected by that then he/she likely will not understand this affliction.

And many of us have lived outside of AR, in fact, probably most on this board have come from other places or now live somewhere else. you do have a right to your opinion, that is what these boards are about, but I think you are in the minority and I do have to wonder why you have moved back here if you find it so unpleasing, or are you still living somewhere else?

So are you saying NWA has more gloom than other parts of the md west, the northern part of the southern states, the mid Atlantic states, New England and so forth? If you are I totally disagree. Yes, the winters can be yucky, especially this winter, but not much different than many other places. If someone is susceptible to SADs they should be looking at the southwest or places like Florida or NV, for starters. Do you live here in NWA?

One other unfortunate aspect of this area is people engaging in personal attacks when someone else disagrees with them. I guess texrzrbak and I are both experiencing that today. I have found that most folks who have lived elsewhere move here for work or retirement; so money or slowness of pace and low cost of living. But it's really laughable to try and compare NWA to most metropolitan areas on any other issue.

I think it's really laughable when someone disagrees with another poster, offers up verifiable data to support their argument, and someone else describes that as a personal attack.

The title of the thread is about the amount of sunshine in Northwest Arkansas. Currently the sun is shining and there isn't a cloud in sight. There was ample sunshine this weekend. When someone says that the sun doesn't shine from December to April, and that claim is easily debunked, people are going to debunk it.

Who is personally attacking someone? We can disagree but I don't consider that a personal attack. And who is trying to compare NWA to other metro areas? I might also add, what does this have to do with sunshine? many people do move to NWA because of jobs or to retire. We happen to know many who choose to move here, but it has nothing to do with sunshine or lack of the same.

I lived in FY all my life until recently. I fall somewhere between you all. For instance, the springs and falls are wonderful; the summers and winters are horrible. There is favorable sunshine, but the weather changes very abruptly in NWA, and that can affect some people negatively. It's pretty subjective whether you think your town has good weather or not. I am not so sure that "verifiable data" tells us anything.

Does verifiable data tell us that there are sunny days in the period of time between December and April every year? Can we verify that the sun does indeed shine, and that not every day is dark, cloudy and gloomy in that time period?
