My favorite beach in Florida is surprisingly, SOUTH BEACH, which is different than Miami Beach. The water is very, very, very clear, warm and Carribbean blue (during the summer). The beaches in Southern Florida are the best, whether it is West or East Coast, the water is more Carribbean blue and clear compared to North Florida.

Clearwater Beach is a favorite of many Floridians (and visitors). The sand is like white powder which doesn't burn your feet and it's a very wide beach with plenty of room to spread out. The water is beautiful and not rough which many find nicer than the choppier Atlantic waves for swimming. Clearwater Beach | St Petersburg Clearwater, FL Beach Vacations

Both of these. Siesta Key has the best sand. It is like baby powder white and powdery whereas the other West Coast beaches don't have near as nice sand. There is a reason Siesta Key Beach makes the best beaches in the world lists all the time.

West Coast Beaches are far superior to the East Coast but it is kind of like comparing diamonds to emeralds. They are both spectacular.

For winter and spring, south Florida is unsurpassed. I *loved* South Beach, and I also enjoyed the European atmosphere there--great people watching.

I agree with another poster about Siesta Key. There are also Sanibel and Captiva Islands. No cars allowed on Captiva. Great shelling there.

But I don't think south Florida trumps north Florida.

If you want dazzling white sand and clear emerald water, the Panhandle, northwest Florida (S. Walton County) is hard to beat.
Seaside, Grayton Beach--these are low key, charming places. No high rises here.

Further east, Panama City is not my favorite place, but the beaches are lovely.

Getting into Gulf county, the sand dunes are still white, the water clear, and the natural beauty unlike anything I've ever seen in Florida. In Gulf County I would walk and walk and not see anyone except bald eagles. That was where I saw the Green Flash.

I'm on the east coast now, on Amelia Island. The water is great but the sand not as pretty as the Gulf. On the other hand, we have lots of wildlife, horseback riding on the beach, beautiful canopy oaks draped with Spanish moss, and we do get more wave action than the Gulf.

I love the area around Boynton Beach I can walk south for miles and enjoy peaceful walks and as I get near the major areas see the people but am able to enjoy the Gulf Stream breezes that keep us warm in the winter and cool in the summer its the best of all worlds!
