On 5/8, several gas stations were out. Thankfully, I was able to find a small, out-of-the-way gas station and filled up. I am glad that I did.

My mom passed on Mother's Day so I went back home to SW GA to be with family (230-mile drive). All along the panhandle, I had a very difficult time finding fuel but I was able to top off near exit 130 on I10 (about the halfway point).

My hometown was not experiencing a shortage when I arrived and I was able to top off again when I got to the hotel. Then Dad had filled up 2 five-gallon gas cans just in case we needed it to get back home. Due to the timing and work schedules, my daughter and wife had to drive separately, meaning that we took three cars.

Each evening when I went back to the hotel, I filled up. However, almost every other gas station was out of fuel by the time I drove home on the 13th. My wife returned home on the 12th and the only gas station that she found on the way home had police officers monitoring the fuel pumps.

Last week was bad enough, but the fuel shortage made traveling a hellish nightmare.

That's terrible you had to add gas problems to all you were already dealing with. That was nice of your Dad to fill up those gas cans. My condolences on your mom's passing.

Wow, that brings back memories of my commute from Tallahassee to Panama City. I drove on that route 20 many times. With gas going out it must have been like the days preceding a cat 4. Except instead of a hurricane the storm was from "hackers" who shut down the pipeline. Karma will get them someday.

Despite what happened, delivery via pipeline is still the most efficient, lowest cost fuel delivery choice. Maybe it's time to revive the Palmetto Pipeline? (I know, not under this administration).
