What is wrong with the article? All it is, is a straight report of what Floridians say they are facing in terms of insurance costs, etc. You are not interested in hearing about the problems facing Floridians? Even the headline is not the Palm Beach Post, it's straight from the mouth of a Floridian.

We received a non-renewal notice from our insurance in January saying our policy won't be renewed unless we replace the roof. The roof is a perfectly working roof with no leak or soft spot that was on its 11th year of a supposedly 15 years life. That triggered a scramble to get quotes for an unplanned $20k expense that we thought wouldn't be needed for at least 4-5 years.
Thankfully a month later insurance sent another letter rescinding the requirement and indicated they will renew. However we took it as a warning to prepare to get it done before next year renewal come around. Just talking to some of the roof contractors, they even said don't bother with getting the better 25-50 years roof upgrades since insurance probably won't let you keep it that long. Something is just broken with the whole system.

You should be able to request a roof inspection that will give you the number of useful years left on your roof. The Florida laws passed in December 2022 included one that said insurers may not drop a policyholder's insurance policy based solely on the age of the roof, or require the policyholder get a new roof as a condition for maintaining insurance coverage with an insurer.

If your roof is only 11 yrs old, it might pay to have it inspected by a reputable roofer, your roof probably has plenty of life left in it- unless there was damage, of course.

I lived in North FL for 25 years, had one large storm,no damage, without power 7 days was prepared wiith generator and 7 gal.of gas.
My insurer went bankrupt, tried to renew price offered was 2 times what I had paid, went over 10 years without.
The south FL area is looking down the barrel of a gun with climate change.

ummmmmmmmmmmm
the way real estate prices are going, people will be dead and buried before they pay off their mortgages
