Im moving there from Illinois and just bought a house near Crestview. Got a decent 3 bedroom , 2 bath, on an acre of land way out in the woods... for $58,000 ! Good luck. By the way, the Panhandle is much cooler and close to super nice beaches. Strong Christian area where people love God. Exactly what i wanted.

I hope you love your new home. Your description of Crestview is very accurate and it's close proximity to Eglin AFB makes this area a great place for retired military folks to take up residence.

However, although on a map it looks as if the beaches are close, you could still be looking at an hour drive during the summer when tourists are in town.

What I love about that area are the Bayou style restaurants. And the outlet mall in Destin is pretty nice too!!

HowDeDo,
Congrats on you're new house purchase! We looked over there before we decided to get a place in PGI. There is a lot going on there, and you should enjoy things for a long time to come.

P.G. I love Cajun / Bayou style restaurants too. Do you know of any in the Punta Gorda Area? You know a lot about all of Florida.

The only cajun restaurant I know in the area is the Zydeco Grill on 775 in Englewood. Food and service are very good.

You might look at North Port, a deightful well-run city of 50,000 about 20 minutes inland from the white sand beaches of Sarasota County. Lots of houses under $100,000. Look for information here:

I know this is possible in the southwest, but how about FL?

Thanks in advance for your time.
You should be able to find excellent homes in Northwest Florida below $100K....

Default Spring Hill, FL

However, the job market is slim there...like it is everywhere, USA.

If we'd stop exporting jobs outta the country, maybe there'd be work for America's citizens...and they don't have to pay me a huge salary (like our elected officials) for that bit of common sense advice. Duh!

I'm the original poster. Can I add a spec which may narrow it down. I'd like to be far enough inland to not get hurt by a hurricane but also be only a few minutes drive to the beach. Given this, would the places all of you mentioned still apply? Please advise.
