I prefer to make a big batch and then freeze it into different containers. I do hate a sweet sauce too. I find almost every major brand name is sweet. If I am buying jarred I usually buy Pastene. https://www.pastene.com/
i do the same, canned tomatoes are very healthy and making my own sauce is very easy, i have herbs in the yard and make up a gallon or two at a time and freeze in family meal size batches. and have been teaching my kids how simple and easy it is cook, by teaching them how many meals are really just slight variations on the same thing.
We have two deep freezers for this type of stuff, it allows be to make sauces and such like and store them for a few months so that even when i am away my family can grab a tub leave it on the counter in the morning and make a 15 min meal that evening.
I buy sauce just for the tomato sauce. For that I like the cheap Rinaldi. When I make spaghetti, I will do all my meat preparation with onions, bell pepper, mushrooms, garlic and seasoning, and add the jarred sauce just for the sauce. Mix together, then cook for a while to get the ingredients mingle. The end product doesn't even resemble the sauce from the jar...
Rao is great... always has been.
i suggest you try buying a can or two of either tomato paste or sauce and doing the samething. You are making 95% of it as it stands, why not throw a few herbs in and have your own sauce ...
costco sell a box of organic tomato sauce that is 100% tomatoes no extra stuff.....and the price is under a $1 a can..( i think)
Sometimes I use a can of S&W Italian style diced tomatoes. It has less sugar and sodium than the jar sauces, and we enjoy the lighter taste sometimes.
