Good tip if you dont mind the onion flavor. Its one of the reasons I always add fresh minced onion to guacamole. Its the volatile gases that cause the preservation. It's one reason why they were used in mummification by ancient cultures.
My biggest peeve with avocados is that I need to decide I want it 4 days from now. I had very good lucky rapidly ripening a firm avocado by placing it for 1 day in a brown bag with a banana.
I love avocados but I am the only one in my house who eats them and I usually take a few days to eat one. This is great to know....from one who eats a lot of brown avocados, lol.
I love avocados. At the farmers markets on the Big Island I can often find smaller avos 2 or 3/1$ Really big ones maybe 75 cents.
When I lived in Long Beach, CA many years ago we had an ancient avocado tree in the back yard that had huge fruits... nearly the size of grapefruits... and starting in November it would drop 6 - 8 a day until March or so. You couldn't park a car under it, because they were so heavy they'd dent the car.
Although it may seem like an unbelievable claim to other avocado lovers, in that house I truly experienced what it is like to have too many avocados.

Being born and raised in So Ca we almost always had an avocado tree in our yard. Yes, they were old as Moses...but boy did we love every one of those peices of fruit...I prefer the smaller ones because there are only 2 of us and the big ones are a little to large. Hubby isn't as in love with them as I am, but he certainly likes having them in salads or even just plain.

I love avocados ...please send me a cutting from that tree. OK .. I really want the mature tree. I would put it to good use for sure. I'd never let one hit the ground or the car.
