Cost of eating out is very expensive, because it will require a gym membership and doctor visits eventually.

Diners always load up on salt, fats, carbs and you typically over-indulge on the portions.

Eating regularly at home > eating out

I think what you are failing to factor into your equation is the TIME that it takes to cook a meal. Even if you purchase all of the ingredients and it comes out to $4 dollars per meal (or a total of $8 for the two of us), if you consider the time that it takes to SHOP for the food (let's say - a half hour) and the time that it takes to prepare the meal. (Even throwing a steak on the fire, along with making potatoes and another vegetable and some kind of dessert), you are EASILY going to sink another half hour (or longer) into the meal. Let's assume that your time is worth $30 dollars per hour, you are already barely breaking even. Now let's factor in the clean up time (which can be significant for someone who does not have a dishwasher), and you have just put yourself into the hole by cooking for yourself.

My husband and I work long, hard hours and the last thing we want to do when we come home is deal with cooking and cleaning up after a home-prepared meal. Yes, eating out is expensive, but our time makes it worth it.

Eating out is not 15 dollars a day (unless you order in). Halal has about 1500 calories, and only costs five dollars. One case of halal, and you got 3/4th of your daily calories, you can fill in the rest with a protein shake and some fruits. There's also great food stands with filling cheap tacos or quesadillas. I certainly don't eat out everyday, but usually 3 or 4 times a week is ok imo. The rest of the time I fill up on eggs or turkey/chicken breast

As for the "it's unhealthy" crowd, the most important thing is that you stay below the caloric limit. Besides, what are you cooking at your home that is so uber-healthy? For most people I kno, cooking at home means linguine with alfredo sauce or meat loaf drenched in gravy. Not much "healthier" if you ask me

I don't think it matters if you eat out or cook, you should worry about your long work hours. Depending on what you do, long working hours is not exactly a healthy lifestyle. I'm not talking about occasional 10 hour shifts, prolong long work hours can lead to hypertension and could lead to heart disease regardless how healthy you eat.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Halal means permitted in the Muslim faith. It's like Kosher in Judaism. You can't buy a case of Kosher.

We have our own business. Working long hours is just part of the deal. My husband works 14 hour days with a one hour commute in each direction. I have been "slacking" and not working as much but our business is seasonal and beginning in March I'll be putting in 7 hours a day plus an hour commute in each direction PLUS growing a garden.

Ya gotta do what you gotta do.

It's much cheaper to eat in, rather than eat out. If you really priced it out you would see a striking difference. All that lunch money (roughly 200$ a month) could be used for the all the meals for the entire month when you are single.

Anything from goat to camel to lamb to falafel to hummus can be halal, so I didn't understand what you meant by 'a case of halal'.
