Cheerios, or Frosted Flakes were the only cold cereals I remember eating. If we can include hot cereal, then Malt-o-Meal, Cream of Wheat, and Cream of Rice was mostly our all time favorites. Even today, a bowl of Malt-o-Meal takes me back to my childhood.
Hm. I'm grew up in the 60s ... so mine were Shredded Wheat (with hot milk), Life, Grape Nuts, Cap'n Crunch, Froot Loops, Lucky Charms. I'm not a huge cereal fan.
cheerios, kix, Wheaties and shredded wheat oh an one most of you have never heard of, maybe none of you: PEP. All kids loved PEP because you could get a PEP beanie and all these buttons to put on the beanies. When we didn't have any cold cereal in the house we would have soda crackers with milk and sugar. My little brother called Cheerios, jeep wheels.
My favorite was Quisp. Quaker had another cereal called Quake, which was pretty much identical except a different shape...then they had a contest to remove one of the cereals. They promoted it as Quisp and Quake "racing" across the country, and kids sent in a section of the cereal box to vote for who they wanted to win. Quisp won and Quake was no more... I actually have a Quisp bobblehead, that I found in a souvenir shop in Times Square. I have no idea why they had him, since he's not a popular character anymore except for oldies like me!

why did they stop putting prizes in cereal boxes??? My husband has a few license plates from honey comb cereal back in the 70's.
Lawsuits! From people too ignorant to know not to give a tiny plastic toy to a 1 year old...same reason Cracker Jacks only gives out little tattoo books instead of toys now. I miss the prizes, too. I had my arm in the cereal up to the elbow as soon as I opened the box! My favorite of all time (yes, I still remember it 45 years later) was a "rock ball" from Cocoa Pebbles, a superball that looked like a rock with craters. I carried that thing in my pocket for months, until a teacher took it away from me and threw it out.
