In a place with a nice view which usually means by the wall. I hate sitting out in the middle with people walking by and feeling like I'm on display.
If I have a nice view (ocean, trees, flowers, whatever) I don't care if it's a table or a booth. I guess if the place has no view, I'd take a booth just for comfort. Never at a bar.
I always sit where nobody can sneak up behind me and I can keep an eye out for who is walking in the door. Paranoid? Yes but when people are REALLY out to kill me that isn't paranoid LOL.

I like to sit near the window so I have a nice view outside. Prefer booths over tables, but it's not a particularly strong preference. I don't mind being in the middle of the room, and it has never occurred to me to feel like I was on display.
The one thing that can drive me nuts the most quickly is bar stool seating. I am a short person, and I HATE being up on a big, tall chair. I have to climb up the darned thing in order to sit down, and then when I am up there my feet are dangling in midair. It is uncomfortable and undignified. I don't mind so much if I am sitting at an actual bar, but I absolutely loathe tall seating for a meal.
I will not sit facing a wall. While a SAHM and DH was working he knew I needed to see humans taller than 3 feet and he was happy to avoid looking at strangers .
I've always preferred tables cause there is nothing worse than having to get out of a booth to let somebody go to the bathroom. Also when the kids were little they would fuss over who got to sit next to Mom or Dad when we sat in a booth. At a table no such hassle.
I learned long ago to decline any seat next the kitchen. And I don't like to sit under a fan or speaker.
Come to think of it I would just rather eat at home in my usual spot with food I know was prepared correctly and under sanitary conditions.
ive never understood this restroom placement,,,,,near the dining room...even in higher class restaurants ive seen this..
im not fussy I would rather to sit away from other in case nearby patrons have annoying eating habits,,,,talking loudly on phones.... smacking too loud... bodily noises,,,sneezing,,,,,coughing,,,and more coughing,,,knowing those germs are filling the whole place,,,or my favorite,,,a screaming infant....if the kid is teething,,,give them something to bite on,,,,how hard is that???
