Because the football (NFL) season runs through winter at that time of the year we almost always have delicious, hot desserts on sunday nights courtesy of my dear mother. Whenever I eat blackberry and apple crumble (not forgetting the lashings of custard!) it reminds me of sitting on the warm couch at night watching the football with the wind and sleet howling around outside the window. Ahhhh, bliss.

Bosco chocolate syrup in milk or over ice cream makes me think of my childhood. I think it's near impossible to find anywhere these days. There is no chocolate syrup like Bosco.

Corn on the cob, and sliced tomatoes and cucumbers sprinkled with salt reminds me of my Grandpa and Uncle on my Dad's side. They lived in rural MI, we visited each summer and they had a garden .

I waited and waited for that Bazooka Joe gum. Popped it in my mouth just to find out that it was 5 years old and hard enough to cut glass. Pis**d me off!

Fried pickles!
I don't make them often, but when I do the taste brings me back to my childhood in Louisiana & walking to Maggie's (a lil' ho-dunk mom n pop shop) & just LOVIN the summer heat mixed with refreshing fried pickles.

Nothing takes me back to Christmas at the Smiths like the smell of a Manhattan.

Whenever I cook anything pumpkin or apple spice type of desserts I think Thanksgiving and when I smell nutmeg and cinnamon I think christmas. When I have pineapples, coconut and oranges and cheese doodles I think of my summers growing up in South Fla living at the beach and the pool, then to come home to my mom making grouper sandwiches with french fries.. Yummmm

Think of Gramma recipes:
Kolacky at christmas. Bohemian gramma's recipe
Pork roast with pork gravy - ummm pork gravy.... made by gram on dumplings

chocolate devil's food cake made from scratch - other gramma
Drinking Dr. Pepper and Green river at gram's house, since mom did not let us drink pop, that was the only place we got to drink soda.

Mom recipe: pork tenderloin

Sweet corn - summer, right from the farmstand with butter and salt.
