Once a week, we order takeout and delivery during this pandemic. Our goal is to order enough food to get two meals out of it.
For example, when we order Chinese or Thai food the portions run large making it easy to get two meals out of it. Even when we would dine-in, we would end up taking home food.
A local Mexican restaurant is offering "family meals" that feed 4. Since they are very reasonably priced, we order one and it's enough to give the two of us two meals.
My Dad once figured out that if he bought a large sub at Subway, he could get two meals out of it. So...getting large subs has come to mind.
Are there any other types of cuisine that anyone has found that give large portions that end up making two meals?
I don't think it is cuisines specific, sometimes it is the dish. For example, there is this fusion ramen restaurant near me with generally small portions. But they have fried rice that comes in a giant portion. I get that one with the intent for leftovers.
There is an Italian place I go to with big portions - but I get the gnocchi since it reheats better than pasta.
there are pizza places around me that are selling "build your own" kits (dough, sauce, cheese & toppings), and instead of pizzas, you could split it and make calzones.
There's another restaurant that has prime rib with 3 different size cuts. I can order a larger cut and an extra salad, and the potato is so big I would only eat half at a meal anyway, so that would get me 2 meals.
It really depends on the restaurant and your own eating habits. We did the Olive Garden BOGO, and my daughter made one meal from the second entree while I got two meals out of my entree. For some people a footlong sub is one meal and for others it's two meals.
But earlier this year I spent a couple of months on the road eating a lot of carryout and delivery. I will say that the restaurants with the most generous portions were generally the local mom and pop type places that served some kind of ethnic dishes, Indian, Ethiopian, Asian, etc. The places serving 'trendy' foods were the worst bang for the buck.
I don't find the alfredo sauce from Olive Garden reheats well at all. It separates and gets oily
