I need to eat more fish. Living in NY was used to flounder/sword fish /tuna.
Being out in the Midwest, none of these are available.
I always see tilapia-is this fresh water/salt water or brackish water fish-I guess my question is what other fish to you equate this to-flounder?
Nomadicus is correct. We do enjoy Talapia. I suppose the closest fish here as far as taste might be perch. Honestly Talapia tastes like what you put on it. We put salsa and cheese on it then bake it. The good thing about Talapia is there is no "nasty" tasting blood line in the center of it that you have to cut out on most other fish. Talapia is a very mild favor. Now Dorado has that blood lline but it is worth removing it because you can't beat the flavor!
I was so tired after finishing a pot of spaghetti sauce yesterday---enough for 10 future dinners plus dinner last night and it was hot & humid here yesterday
which sure didn't help! Tonight is going to be baked onion chicken breasts with mashed potatoes and green beans!

I buy my fish at Trader Joe's ... do you have one near you? We try to eat fish twice a week. We had ahi on Wednesday and tomorrow it's halibut. My husband does not like most freshwater/lake fish. I like TJ's because the fish is reasonably priced. Orange roughy is my favorite, but I can't afford to spend $20+ on fish for one meal.
Seems to be a fish theme going on here, which fits right in with my plans for the day.
I'm going over to the coast to watch Atlantis launch, hopefully I will be able to find some yummy seafood for a late lunch in Titusville!
Spaghetti Bolognese, salad, garlic breadsticks. I'm loving the fresh herbs growing right outside my kitchen door. Sadly, they will probably all die once the Houston summer hits full force.
Are you new to Houston or has this happened to you before? I find herbs love heat and have done very well here in Dallas with them. All except the bolting herbs like Cilantro, which goes to seed as soon as the heat hits. Rosemary bushes in particular can grow into enormous hedges here, and I've also got a couple of large thyme plants that are perennial. My favorite is the basil though. I usually have basil until late October.
I'm lobbying for dinner tonight at Sullivan's steakhouse, but I don't think I'm winning as DH "prefers home cooking."
A superb 1 pound steak served with a delicious steak sauce (on the side), a large baked potato (your choice of crispy or soft skin), choice of sweet corn, spinach or green beans, and a huge slice of fresh baked English Yorkshire pudding covered in a savory beef gravy. Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream ~or~ raspberry or lime sherbet for dessert. (Raspberry and Lime sherbets can be ordered combined)

Orange roughy is a favorite here too but it's an annual event because of the price as you stated. Even for two of us it is costly. We've started stocking haddock while the price is reasonable. Fish is a favorite supper at my house with the southern greens and such. Sunday is coming.
