Is the turnpike really better than 95? I have heard it gets really backed up as well.

It depends what part of Miami you are going to. Miami is a huge place. Are you talking about the mainland Turnpike? Or the Turnpike Extension? If you are going to downtown Miami, it makes no sense to take the Turnpike because it takes you right back to 95 and you get stuck in a huge logjam at the Golden Glades Interchange. The Turnpike Extension is way further west and only makes sense to take if you are going to the western and extreme southern areas of Miami such as Doral, Kendall, Cutler Bay, or Homestead.

If you live in eastern Fort Lauderdale east of 95, there would be no reason for you ever to take the Turnpike if you are heading to downtown Miami.

That route goes faster, but also takes longer in terms of mileage. And once you get off at Doral Blvd you are stuck in stop and go all the way through Doral to the airport. Doral is a very congested area.

If you live in eastern Fort Lauderdale, there is no reason to take any other route other than 95. Other routes take you too far west and you spend more time backtracking than you would just sitting in stop and go on 95. Also there are tolls.

Tigerllo have you consired coastal Miami Dade? Those areas are still english speaking like Sunny Isles

Sunny isles is close to the Palmetto Expressway. Tracfic is bad around Hialeah but you would only be using one expressway without tolls.

I have considered Miami, but I have a friend that lives in Sunny Isles (we work at the same place) and it still takes her 45 minutes to get to work. My thought was that if it is only 15 minutes further, I would prefer to have a better quality of life when I am not working. It also seems a lot more expensive in Dade and not as safe. I havent ruled it out completely, but that would be more about finding a specific place than having an area in mind and finding the best that I can there. I need a minimum of three bedrooms and I do not want another house. That also limits what is available

It's really hard to avoid traffic in Doral unless you live in Miami Springs.

I think it will be a long commute, the Turnpike might be less traffic but once you get in Doral blvd you will face Doral's traffic. If you take the Palmetto you will get Hialeah traffic but avoid the Doral 36 st traffic.

It will be more than an hour either way but the Palmetto option might be slighly better. I think the difference would be more than 15 minutes, more like close to 1/2 hour from Sunny Isles to Ft Lauderdale
