If anyone catches the "Namath" documentary on HBO, most of the current stuff is filmed in that house. He is sitting in a chair for much of the interview. They also had "back in the day" clips of Bachelors NYC.

To be fair, the guy has not played in over 35 years and he is definitely still "living the dream" compared to the majority of "former" NFL players. Most are broke within a year or two of retirement.

I heard the saying once: NFL stands for "Not For Long"......

Awesome, Fiddlerman You two enjoy yourselves and have a great stroll down memory lane. I wonder how many couples were as lucky as you two, finding a real match in one of Ft. Lauderdale's clubs?

It was called Agora Hallendale. Open till 6 legally , but, closed usually at 4 unless some special event. No admittance after 4. People who were in could stay. I know because I built it and ran it!

Default Shooters & Gold Coast Skating Rink

Yes, Shooters was the waterside restaurant on the intracoastal, just south of the bridge. You could see it from the bridge if you were driving slow enough. You had to know how to get in there after making the right turn onto Oakland.

The only skate rink I remember is the Gold Coast on US 1 south of town, just as you are coming in.
I think it's still there, but closed. It may have been somewhere earlier in the 80's if it was serving drinks, because the one on US 1 never did.

nose, so you were one of those guys who provided the rest of us with a place to play! Thank you for your service How did it work out for you? What are you doing now? No way I could EVER be in the restaurant or nightclub biz myself. 24/7 and very tough. But, the Ft. Lauderdale area certainly had some of the best, most hardworking club owners and managers in the 1980s. Great places! Thanks for the contribution!

Oh, and while I'm thinking of it, does anyone remember all the backgammon tourneys they used to have in South Florida back in the '80s? I thought of it because one of the top backgammon players around Ft. Lauderdale was also a very good roller-skater.

Heh... yeah, I remember the backgammon tourneys. Or more accurately for me, there wasn't a bar in town that didn't have ferns and backgammon boards. They were everywhere.

God, I love this thread.
