I go to a Vietnamese barber shop for $5 for a men's haircut.. I used to live within walking distance from there but even after moving to a new apartment, I still make the trek there for my haircut. They're not overly busy and I've gotten better haircuts there than at some of the $15+ dollar places I've tried.
Strange, but I've typically found the cheaper haircuts to be better!
I've gone everywhere, from the ultra-expensive ($250 for a cut) to the ultra-cheap ($3 at a beauty school), I've found the cheaper, the better!
I don't know why, perhaps just luck, perhaps they try harder, who knows? but the times I've gone to the high-end salons, well......usually they are ok the first few times, then they get snitty. I guess I'm not their "type" of clientelle. I mean, I do everything right, show up on time, leave a generous (but not too generous) tip, dress nice, etc, etc, but lets face it....if you don't fit in, they aren't going to work with you.
I've found the more expensive hair salons to br a type of club almost, they only want their "own kind" and freeze you out if you don't fit. hey, that's ok, on our budget we can barely afford the $3 cut now, but that was back in the day.
Actually, I'm more pleased with my $9 cut, and I do the color, actually, I look better now than when I went to the more expensive places
I pay for a haircut and blowout $45, plus tip. My hairstylist is excellent and really does what I say.
I don't mind paying that much every 2-3 months because I save money by cutting DH's hair. I've been doing his hair, my DS's hair, and other family members for many years, that I have become very good at cutting and texturizing hair. Believe me, I'd do my own if I could figure out how to cut the back of my hair.
I dye my own hair and have already cap highlighted it.
Last time I paid for a haircut was when I was a teenager in the 70's. Went to the local beauty school, paid I think about $5.00
Had a ten year stretch in the mid '90s when I didn't once cut my hair.
It was down to my hips by then and I got it cut to donate to the "LOCKS OF LOVE" program...They make wigs for cancer patients. Didn't cost me anything to get it cut for that purpose.
A neighbor of mine who is a hairdresser cut my hair for me 2 years ago, just after I had a car wreck and was in the hospital for 3 months recuperating. She didn't charge me anything to do it, which was very sweet of her. I did reciprocate by dog -sitting for her while she was out of the country, once I finally got out of the hospital.
Hmm, how does one go about getting their hair did () at a beauty school? I can't even think of the names of any off the top of my head, lol!
Do you just.. show up? Usually make an appointment? As a guy, I always get trimmed up.. so it's REALLY hard to mess it up (though, some retards have.. sigh)
I buzz mine with the clippers and 1/8" guard in the bathroom every couple of weeks. A set of clippers costs about $25 bucks though. Haircuts add up, and routinely I'd be annoyed with the job they'd do if I just chanced going to somebody new, so I like this DIY strategy just fine. Never needs combed and it looks okay on me too.
I just got a haircut two days ago and I paid €9.50 which is around $13.50, not expensive at all
