Very inspiring, thank you for posting this. I could live high on the hog on 40K, but I am single. To see families doing it is very inspiriing.

Same here, I could live well on 23k a year. As long as I don't ever get sick.

Really? I make about 24K now and I can barely make ends meet. But I have a car payment. Without that, things would be much easier. Also, my health insurance deduction is around $340.00 a month, so that's a huge hit.

I pay $500 a month rent.

I don't drive.

I don't have health insurance.

I currently make 16k a year.

well, I posted this because I found some threads here on city data which were about people making north of $100,000/yr complaining how they are broke etc. because they are living in the city and such...what complete nonsense.

I find people making this kind of money whining about how poor they are quite disconcerting when there are so many making $40 or 50k and raising families.

No offense though...but that doesn't appear to be "living well".

$16k after taxes for a single person in Cali is about $13k....which equates to about $1100 a month, which after your rent of $500 leaves you with $600....assuming no debt whatsoever. $600 for food, clothes, incidentals, obviously an ISP.....well I must commend you on your pluck. A $500 rental in the LA area can't be the Taj Mahal.
