Why would I invest in yet another device when I already have 2? I have an ObiHai, which works just fine, and I also have a Linksys ATA device. I already use a 4 phone system plugged into my ObiHai device. Why would I purchase yet another adapter device just so I can pay Ooma $50+ a year on top of paying them $150 for a 3rd device?

My usage of minutes is extremely low. I already have a Verizon smartphone plan. With that I get 450 min/month, of which I use maybe 120 min or so per month.

I say free or nearly free (landline/ATA VOIP solution) with a free DID Callcentric number and an outgoing call plan at $0.004/min is better than $50+ year to Ooma or anyone else for that matter. I use Google Voice exclusively as the phone number I publish. Even if I had Ooma or anyone else I would still be using my GV phone number and having calls forwarded to my voip and cell.

The quality of MagicJack has been fine for me. I only use it for long distance and took advantage of an offer last year for 5 more years for $70.

Years ago, I got an Ooma. It is on the older plan, and has absolutely no monthly cost. New subscribers have to pay about $4 per month for 911 fees and taxes. Older users pay $0.

About 5 years with absolutely no phone bill, and my old phone number works great.

VOIP is good.

I too can fully endorse Ooma for those looking for an alternative. I live in one of the most heavily taxed cities & my monthly bill is less than $3.50. If you are cyber-shopping savvy you can wait until a discounter like Woot has the refurbs for $79. Porting over a previous ph# is a one time fee of $30.

It uses your internet connection & you can surf while on the phone. The service itself is the same as my previous more expensive service & they make note of your location for 911 calls.

Really all one needs is a cell phone these days, & there are good discounters for $30-40/month for those, but this is so cheap I figured I would keep the hard line.

So it's May 16th and my Obi100/Google Voice is still working as it always has.
On other forums (dslreports, obitalk) many other people are reporting the same.
There is a lot of speculation on those forums about what is exactly meant by end of support and does not equal end of service?
