I found this recipe in the NY Times, and it looks so simple, cheap, and good. You make your own pizza dough and top it with potatoes, rosemary, and garlic. It looks so yummy!
And what could be cheaper than making your own dough?
Here is another recipe for the dough and it is simple and it is pretty good. No kneading. I might try adding whole wheat flour the next time I make it less cheese and more vegetables but no potatoes. Strach on top of starch does not sound healthy to me, lol.
FWIW, I used a Kill-a-watt to measure the power usage of a breadmaker. It is absolutely minimal. I was QUITE surprised. DW makes all our bread, pizza crusts, rolls, biscuits, brioche, etc.. THe stuff is TOO good and I've put on a few pounds.
A yummy pizza to try....terriyaki chicken with cherries...i know sounds horrible, but is awesome, our three girls request this every week.

Or buy a large pizza for $5 already made. Unless you buy things wholesale you are unlikely to beat the sale prices on pizza at the pizza shops.
Yuck, frozen pizzas taste awful, it's not even worth a penny. Not to mention it's loaded with processed crap and is unnecessarily high in sodium. Nutrition and taste wise, you'll get a better bang for your buck by making it from scratch. Plus, if you buy the ingredients in bulk you'll be able to make multiple pizzas which means the cost per pizza is low.
