Leaves are great, but only in your compost pile. Don’t think that leaving leaves on your lawn, or even mulching them in with your mower is doing your lawn any favors.
I run my lawnmower over the leaves as long as I can. I've got a lot of oak trees around my yard and they are still dropping leaves in January. Plus part of my yard is woods and a good wind will blow more leave in the yard. The leaves turn to dust and get absorbed into the soil. I can't imagine why mulching you leaves would be bad for your lawn.
I too run the mower over the leaves, BUT only with the catcher on.
