foreign names are kind of tricky. they mean different things to the people of the original culture than what they mean here. The guy named Shi Ting is most likely from China and the name might be very popular over there. Here in America people will make the joke.

On a side note, a server who works at the Feast Buffet at Sunset Station out here is named William and he's from the Philipines. His mother apparently liked a TV show from America.

I've heard a lot of German and picked up a few words here and there. So just out of curiosity I ran this through a German to English translator to see the modern version. Hund is dog. Sucker is sauger. Hundesauger is dog sucker. Names changed drastically between about 1650 when names were spelled by the way is sounded to the record writer and 1800s when schools became the norm. And one,of course, can never discount family lore.

Years and years ago met a lady about my age whose last name was similar to the name above. One day over coffee she she said, "When I married my George, we were very young. I had more hair on my chest than he did." I almost dumped coffee in my lap.

"You're kidding?" She unbuttoned enough of her blouse that I could see a half dollar size patch of hair that was 3 inches long.

We live and we learn.

Some of you people need to lighten up, get your minds out of the gutter, or both.

I know Rapers, Slaughters, Hoggs, Huggs, Whiteheads and Beitings. They're all quite proud of their family names.

I'm American by birth and have been walking around with a Polish name since birth. I seem to be bearing up quite well under the disgrace.

What about Hogshead, or Roach, or Hogg, or Whitehead?

This is my opinion - Life's too short to live it burdened with a last name that would be repulsive and invoke such a negative, or ridiculing response from so many people.

Would you worry about offending members of your family?

Why or why not?
It were Sue.

Default Around here there is Pigg

.. Enterprises. It's a pretty big car lot and the family's name is Pigg. They accept it with good humor, though, their slogan is "Get a squeal of a deal!" My friend was an Air Force service school registrar and had many funny examples--Charmin Butts was one that comes to mind. Also, someone there who was originally from S.C. I believe, said there was a Muckenfuss family and everyone had to be careful pronouncing that. My last name is fairly common around here, it's Story. I wore a nametag and one of the officers remarked that he thought that was an unusual last name--I looked at his nametag and his was about 11 characters with only a couple of vowels in there!

I still think "Kuntz" is the absolute worst last name, and I can't understand why anyone WOULD'NT change it. But I still encounter it here and there.

I can snicker at "Dickhaus" and "Butts," but Kuntz is in a different league altogether!

What's so repulsive about Whitehead? Do you think white-haired people are repulsive?

I'm pretty sure it must be Bonner, not Boner.
