I moved to Hawaii from the east coast out of college. I didn't know a single person here and Hawaiian culture/society is VERY different from that on the east coast. While I know that I will not be here forever, it has been a great learning experience and I feel that I have grown a lot from this experience. At times, I really miss my friends and family (especially since I can't go home for the holidays) but I just stay positive and focused on what I am grateful for having here in HI (aka BEACHES!)
It sounds like a good opportunity! Sidenote...my husband and I are looking to move from Ohio to Virginia...so I am somewhat concerned about leaving my family and friends here in Ohio to go somewhere new. However, like someone else posted...they aren't too far away (for me between 8-9 hrs) so you can always make a long weekend out of it.
You have to go with what is best for you. It is hard to think about leaving those you care for, but if it's right for you then you (I would say) HAVE to consider it. The opportunity sounds really good and since you've known this person for quite a while and lived with him before you sound like you might even be more prepared than most.
