I dunno, I like I-90 a lot, but that stretch between Madison, WI to Seattle, a whole bunch of nuthin' as far as cities go.

San Diego, Portland and Seattle, to me, blow away all the cities I-95 goes through, with the possible exception of Boston, which I do think is charming in spurts.

How can you say "blows them away" and then give zero context to the statment lol

In terms of scenery?
In terms of scope/size?
In terms of built enviornment?

What metrics we you basing this off of?

All three. I enjoy all three more due to scenery, scope and built environment, for myself, anyway.

As a resident of SD, scenery is something the West Coast has on absolute lock down, zero argument there.

Asthetics preferences aside. I don't see how Seattle, SD or Portland "blow away" their East Coast counterparts when at East Coast cities are larger & more densely built at parity or absoulte terms.

NYC looks and feels bigger than LA becuase it is

Miami, DC or Philly are all on the same built scale as SF/Oakland

Boston looks and feels bigger than Seattle becuase it is.

SD is larger than Baltimore on a metro level but on a city level the gap is negligable (both are considerably bigger in feeling than Portland)

I-5 feels like abandoned compared to the east.

I-5 is generally a forlorn freeway, but it does have it’s moments. San Diego and Los Angeles have major traffic counts. Doesn’t get busy again until Portland and Seattle.

I would definitely say that I-95 blows I-5 out of the water.

First you have New York City which is not only the largest city in the country, it is the most important. It is home to world finance and the most national and international corporations. It is also our wealthiest city and most important culturally with our nations largest and most prestigious cultural institutions.

Then there is Washington DC which is our nation’s Capitol and center for government. It is the center of US and world politics.

Boston has a very long history of being the center for our leading higher educational institutions (Harvard, MIT). In fact the I-95 corridor has many of our country’s very best colleges and universities along it including Brown University (Providence, RI), Yale University (New Haven, CT), Columbia University (New York City), and Princeton University (Princeton, NJ). Again, no contest. Jay

I love the East Coast overall and the plethora of interesting road trips and destinations that it puts me within striking distance of. That said, I don't particularly enjoy driving I-95 and often try to find ways around it. I drove to NC last year and hooked up with I-81 (scenic mountain route) most of the way down and coastal highways through the Del-Mar-Va peninsula and Cape May Ferry on the way back up (very enjoyable).

Yeah Yeah, I-95 has lots of big cities, but I'll save NYC for Amtrak. I-5 has much better scenery most of the way and no shortage of big cities either. The CA/OR border along I-5 passing Mt Shasta and the Siskiyou Range is spectacular!

Yes, on a clear day Mt Shasta is spectacular from I-5. But I-5 also has glimpses of Mt Hood in OR and Mt Rainier in WA.

But for purists the best view of Rainier is US 12 westbound from about 42 miles from Yakima. (Mileage may be a bit off) only advised on a clear day!
