I-5 between Sacramento and Portland is usually clear sailing. The only thing to slow you down is road construction or a snow event in Northern CA/Southern OR. Just a beautiful trouble free route! Entering WA state gets more dicey due to greater population.

You can use any criteria you like:

Quality of life, weather, cost of living, education, attractiveness of the population, natural beauty, culture, which group of cities you'd rather live in, jobs, economy, trendsetters, etc.
Leave it to a bunch of C-D posters to alternate what the actual OP question is, to which freeway has better rocks and lakes to look at out the window from the respective highway. Instead of 85% of the other criteria posted.

Really? The question from OP was pretty generic IMO. As in “you can use any criteria you want”. But I guess the thread police are on duty!
