Philadelphia is such a long name (6 syllables)

Add the state to it you are up to 12

In Florida, the locals shorten Boca Raton to simply Boca.

In Kansas, I've heard people call Overland Park "OP".

Returning to big cities, how about Vegas? I'd say that shortened name is just is just as popular as DC or Philly.
Also in FL, Coral Gables = The Gables or just Gables, Coconut Grove = The Grove. St Petersburg = St. Pete, Jacksonville = Jax, West Palm Beach = West Palm.

I think it depends on the part of the country. In Colorado, we say LA and KC most commonly.

If we refer to New York, we usually either just say it or add the C - NYC. I've never heard someone say NY.

For San Francisco: San Fran.

OKC gets thrown around a lot here as well.

For New Orleans, nobody here says NOLA, they just say New Orleans. I've heard NOVA a couple times for Northern Virginia though.

Alec for Alexandria has been around forever.

IDK but that's what it says on your driver's license.

I'm pretty sure MPLS is the only city to have that on their driver's licenses. Does Los Angeles residents have LA, California on theirs? Or Chi, Illinois? Do New York Citians have NYC, New York on their license? Just wondering because I'm curious.

For the most part, throughout CO, the state's second largest city is referred to as "the Springs". Regardless of Idaho Springs, Glenwood, Manitou, etc. On KMGH-TV years ago, their state weather map had Colorado Springs simply shown as "Springs".
