fantastic location so it's easy to visit a lot of other cities, houses are HUGE for the money (its common to get 2k+ square foot houses for $100,000, and they also seem to have large yards as well), low cost of living, the city (and state) seem to be well run and doing relatively well (compared to the rest of the country). you also get all four seasons. Indy is definitely a place i think one could raise a family in. not sure if much construction is going on there but someone on the state's forums should be able to help out
oh, and apparently they passed a cap on property taxes, so it's equal to something like 1% of the home's value. some examples of homes (with 4+ bedrooms) for $100k are as follows
Thank you for the responses. We stumbled upon Greenville, SC and it looks like that is going to be our new home. We will be moving in 3 months, so we have to get to work on finding a rental and sending out resumes for my husband.
