I really haven't left yet. Originally went to college in Boston for a semester, but transferred back home. Live on campus, but only 20 minutes from my house. Graduating next year. I won't be any closer than DC/Northern Virginia, but I could be as far away as California depending on what job I get. Looking forward to getting out of here.
I moved away from Argentina to the US when i was 21 years old. I got tired of my city, the people, the food, everything. I was fed up so i told my dad "i want to move" and 7 months after i came to Los Angeles and ive been here since 2001.

At age 19 as a sophomore in college I moved out, and got an apartment closer to school. A few months after graduation I got married and after a few months we moved into a rented house, got a real job and about 4 years later bought our first house. All this in the San Francisco bay area. Eventually with 3 kids we moved to the Seattle are where we have been the last 19 years. One is still here with us, the other two both went off on their own by about age 20 but stayed in this area.
20 here. Did have my associates degree under my belt and a little savings, and a decent job. Moved in with my cousin we split an apartment rent wise. Really was a peaceful move, have since bout a house. But havent been back home since been gone 8 years. Just try and plan everything out if you can.
I don't think going to college really counts as moving away from home. Between Summer break, Winter break and Thanksgiving, I only spent about 7 and half months on campus a year. I grew up 50 minutes southwest of Boston and went to college in Connecticut a 2 hour drive away.
I really moved out, for good, when I was 23 and moved out to the West Coast (San Diego) for 3 years.
I didnt think going to college counted either but I saw everyone else's posts so I followed suit.

Why wouldn't college count, as long as the person actually leaves the house?
Anyway, I left home at 17 to go to college (600 miles away). I go see my family at Christmas and for short visits, but I never again "lived" at home. I spent my college summers working in other cities.
San Francisco to Colorado for college, i brought my car out there and got a part-time job which was nice. At first i was really homesick, i really missed all my friends and family back home but i got used to it within my first year and i enjoyed making new friends and living on my own I graduated just over 5 years ago and when i came back home i started to miss all my friends back in CO lol but we still stay in touch
Just remember its not like you are leaving for good, your family and friends will always still be there when you want to visit them
Moved out at 18, moved in with some roommates for college, rent was a cozy 225+ about another 100 for utils split between 4 people.
TAM88, why wouldn't college count... is it different than if you started working at a retail place? Don't understand that... Personally I still took summer classes and had a job and still lived there, I actually started living there in the summer before college even started.
