Where are the stats from that? From the link I posted earlier and googling for sizes in sq feet, it says Houston has the 9th largest downtown in terms of square footage, the 8th largest in employment, and the 13th largest in terms of employment density.
San Fran has 20% more highrises in the city compared to Houston, and San Fran's highrises are much more concentrated downtown compared to Houston where there are dozens of large highrises all over the city. Although the highrises in Houston do tend to be quite tall.
Houston has a large downtown, but I think since the city has so many big commercial centers of employment, that's why its downtown is slightly smaller than you'd expect for one of the 10 largest metros in the country. The city ranks 30th in terms of the % of its employment located in the CBD.
20% more, HOW?? San fran does not have more tall buildings than Houston at any heigth level. I have researched this thoroughly. Now i do agree that San Francisco has a larger Downtown than Houston. That is true. If you grouped all the Business districts of Houston it would be a lot larger than San Fran.
Houston is by far the 3rd largest downtown in the country for amount of buildings and height. Maybe you guys are judging it a different way.
We are talking Downtown size not skyline size. Yes Houston does have the third biggest skyline( Miami is threatening this though) but it does not have the third biggest Downtown.

Emporis isn't accurate, it's like wikipedia. Not all buildings are mentioned, some non-existant buildings are mentioned.
According to Emporis, both NYC and Chicago have exactly 400 buildings in their CBD...what a coincidence!
O.k I've seen some of those buildings in San Francisco on Emporis and I can tell you that My house is bigger than some of those buildings on emporis.
404 buildings in San Francisco?? What does the building need to qualify 3 stories????? What are they counting
Emporis ranks Houston higher than San Fransisco in it's Skyline rankings.
I think Miami has the third largest downtown, but skyline I believe includes all the buildings in the city limits....?
It is very close between Miami and Houston. When all the current construction in Miami is complete then I would have to say Miami's is bigger for the mean time I think it is close but Houston edges out Miami because it has 4 buildings taller than anything in Miami.
