Since there are much more cities (and total population) on the East Coast, is there noticeably more sky traffic also?

To expand on Kidphilly's video, the NYC-New Jersey-Philadelphia airspace is the busiest in the world.

That is correct, even moderately bad weather can have significant impacts.

JFK, LGR, EWR, and PHL all share aspects of the approach and departure space due to their proximity

Ground delays are most common when flying to these airports due to limited approach spacing many times, mostly impacts domestic flights

Simple answer, yes. Also, the population density of the United States is greatest on the east coast.

Is fairly noticeable in the high traffic areas to the point where it affects quality of life somewhat?

I'm in the Los Angeles area and probably only see about four or five planes in the sky in a day. it's the helicopters that like to fly around 6 to 10:00 PM that really **** me off

There's a lot of air traffic over the Washington, D.C. - Baltimore area, though it's not to the extent as the area surrounding NYC. Nowhere in the U.S. comes close to it.

It makes sense that the east coast has much more air traffic, since it's the most densely populated region. A lot of people don't seem to realize just how much population is packed into northeastern U.S. and the part of Canada adjacent to it - to say nothing of its proximity to Europe.

LAX is busier than any airport in the Northeast, and there are about a half dozen more in the area that get decent use. I see more planes without even trying, but usually off in the distance.

This is a rather "no-brainer" question

And let's not forget that Atlanta's Hartafield-Jackson International Airport is the busiest in the world, with five parallel E-W runways. The thousands of flights that go in and out of ATL everyday do indeed affect the QOL for people who live east and west of the airport. Over the years, the city of Atlanta has bought up and leveled entire neighborhoods for noise abatement.
