What cities/places could you drive to in 12 hours? (amusement park, calculating)

Within an approximately 11-12-hour driving radius of Duluth there is:

> Billings, Montana (12 hours if you're really in a hurry!)
> Regina, Saskatchewan
> Tulsa, Oklahoma
> The Ozarks
> Louisville, Kentucky
> Cedar Point amusement park
> Detroit, MI
> Sudbury, ON

Very limited compared to Chicago, where you can theoretically get to NYC, Atlanta, Baltimore, Ottawa, the Wall Drug Store in western South Dakota, and even Monroe, LA within +/- 12 hours.

are very long drives for leisure more part of the culture out there? 12 hours sounds extreme to me, but it seems like there's more of a road trip culture in the middle of the country.

Everything is so spread out in the west that a 12 hour drive is typical on a road trip. Seattle to San Francisco is 12 hours and lots of people make that trip! I guess it's not as big of a deal over here.

though would fly to any over say 3-4 hours

That isn't exactly true, and not feasible for say, a weekend. Either way you lose 2 days making that trip. Not really sure what the point is. And I would imagine there are far more people who drive from say, the NE and Midwest to Florida...

My weekend limit is about 4-5 hours for a weekend trip and maybe 8 hours for a 3-4 day weekend. 12 hours+ is more of a week+ trip.

You cannot easily get to NYC from Chicago in 12 hours. DC, yes, but not NYC (*edit: maybe if you go 80 mph with no traffic). Also, you seemed to forget that the Twin Cities are within 12 hours of Duluth -- more like 2.5 hours.
