I thought it would be interesting to see how long different Americans families have been here. How long have they been living here? When did they come? From what country?

On my Mom's side, both sets of my great-grandparents came from Mexico in the 1920s. So both of my Mom's parents(my maternal grandparents) are first generation americans.

On my Dad's side, my great-great-great grandparents(on my grandpa's side) came from Germany sometime in the 1800s, and first settled in Ontario, Canada, then my Great-Great Grandpa moved from Canada to the US before the turn of the century(1900). My grandpa's Mom's parents lived in Canada, not sure when they came from Europe.

My Great-Grandpa(my Dad's Mom's Dad) immigrated from Norway when he was a teenager in the 1910s. Not sure about my great-grandma, but know she was American born. Not sure how long her family was here though. I know she was English.

So both sets of Grandmas and one of my Grandpas were first generation Americans.

How about you?

Most of my ancestors were here when we won our independence from England. I am an all-American girl; a mixture of English, American Indian, German and Scotch-Irish.

My grandfather on my mum's side is the most recent, he moved to Connecticut from Germany in the 1930s when he was 10. He was actually of both German and Polish blood. He is the most recent immigrant that I know of in my family. The rest of my grandparents were born to immigrants though.
My maternal grandmother was born to a Polish and Russian immigrants.
My paternal grandmother was born to Spanish (from SPAIN) immigrants.
My paternal grandfather was born in Tennessee, to 2nd generation Irish immigrants.

My ancestors from both sides of my family came from England and Germany to the mid-Atlantic region in the early 1600s. One of my ancestors was French, Nicholas Martiau, and he was the city planner for Yorktown, VA. I think that's pretty cool.

DNA testing confirms that I'm 99.9 percent European, 65 percent of that (at least) English/Irish, 9 percent German and French, 25 percent unknown Northern European, and 1 percent southern European.

I'm the whitest person I know.

I don't know about my Dad's side as much, but on my Mom's side her father was the only child of 7 (I believe it's 7) to be born in the U.S. Everyone else was born in Poland and they immigrated to the U.S. in the 1920's.

My father's side has almost been here 100 years. My grandfather came from Mexico when he was 6, and my grandmother's parents came from Mexico not long before she was born. All of my grandparents' parents came from Zacatecas/San Luis Potosi/neighboring states. This particular wing of my family has achieved the most success/wealth here in the states.

Certain branches of my mother's side have been here since the 1600's, mostly Scottish and English folks who settled in New England, and SLOWLY moved west. Some of hers came from Mexico (Sonora) too, in the early 20th century.

On my mom's side they came between 1890 and 1905 when Scandinavian immigration was in full swing.

Dad's side have their roots in New England colonial English. Most came during the Puritan Migration from 1630 to 1640 but there are a lot of others too. Going back to the colonial era it is hard to say who all your ancestors were.
