I was raised in southern California but moved away in the '90s. The built environment in the major central and south Florida metro areas has some superficial resemblance here and there to greater Los Angeles, with the dense sprawl, regular street grid, palm trees and faux-Mediterranean architecture. At least it is a little closer than is true of the Piedmont South, with its winding roads, predominantly large residential lots with extensive tree cover, and greater use of brick in construction. But southern California is about as different from the eastern US as it gets for two areas in the same country.
