NY and California aren't the only places, don't know where you got that idea.
Ironically, I believe that he met his second wife in Upstate NY(Rochester area).

This is true in every region of the US, not just the south.
I understand what you are saying, but some small towns may be more open due to its history or if it has a long time college or military presence that brings a transient and diverse population, to some degree.

I'm going to be perfectly honest; I'm not totally buying the OP's story. WAY too conveniently slanted to fit a stereotypical narrative. I've lived in the South (Charlotte area) my whole life. I go to a racially mixed church with quite a few mixed-race families (and it's a conservative church), have several family members who are in mixed race marriages (along with some friends too), and a cousin and her husband who have an adopted black son (in a semi-rural area). All of us either live in NC or SC. Not saying that there aren't the occasional racial issues that happen, but they happen at no greater rate than anywhere else in the U.S and within in any racial group. There's clearly no way I can possibly know 100% how true or untrue about what the OP is saying, but it's just too conveniently dredging regional stereotypes and totally goes against everything personally I've seen here in NC/SC and other parts of the South that I've frequented. Sorry, I'm just not buying it.

I'm assuming you must be white? I don't think white people can comment on stuff like this. Racism is still very prevalent in the United States today. Every minority experiences racism either directly or indirectly. You don't really see/notice it if you're white. It also doesn't affect you at all.

I have to call you out on this one. You're spouting the common misconception that "racism doesn't affect white folks." It most certainly does in some areas and situations.

News flash - anyone of any color can be the victim of racism and can find out how it feels to be discriminated against due to to the color of their skin. More in some situations than others, of course.

I just don't think interracial couples are that rare or people even care about them...

I've been in an interracial relationship for 4 years now and have never once encountered anything awkward about it. We've traveled to texas, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, California, Chicago, DC, Philly, Jersey, Seattle....and I can honestly say I've never encountered an issue with it.

Either people just dont care or I've been lucky, but I'm thinking it's more people just dont care..... and rightfully so.

I think the difference is in terms of structure, history and volume/impact, as if this was viewed through the lens of competition, the results lay this out. I believe that is what the poster is referring to.

Or if there has been any displeasure, it isn't voiced or displayed directly/openly.

Sometimes white people are the minority. Ever been in a country where you felt as though you had to apologize for being American?

Of course they can. But not to the degree or frequency of other demographics. Let's be real and not pretend like it's equal on all sides because it's not. Not even close. That's the ugly, unfortunate truth.

I'm white myself, but I don't think a white person should comment on what's realistic or not in terms of another persons experienced with racism, since we really have no idea.
