I was simply wondering why no TX, but now that I hear you prattle a bit more I am relieved to know that you won't be my neighbor any time soon. There are good people of all political stripes all over this country, whether they are "manly," like you seem to think you are, or not is inconsequential.

May you find peace.

Well I was going to try and help but since OP is needlessly combative I don't see any need.

I laughed out loud at that. If you think for yourself, why do you need to go on a forum filled with internet strangers to tell you where in the US your ideal community is? Can't a big strong free-thinking man such as yourself handle that on his own?

Um, thanks for the kudos, but I wasn't championing your cause. I was responding to another poster who made a sideways swipe at Texans. I was merely calling out his stereotyping in a civil tone.

I have no stake in your quest. I'm neither going to criticize nor agree with you here. You should move wherever you want to move to.

The rest are just lining up to find some way to besmirch my preferences that swim against the popular current of contemporary progressive politics.

So again, I pay them no mind.

This is not a political thing, nor a diversity thing. Rather it is a matter of remembering what makes places and people unique and not indoctrinated robots who all resemble each other in voice, thought and appearance. I need the other ones. The 'real' ones. I won't find them in Austin, nor Minneapolis, nor Miami, nor Seattle nor Atlanta.

Minervah understands my position so clearly because she remembers a time when there was a real magic in the air about Portland. When it was its own, when it belonged to itself. Cities used to be this way. People used to actually be interesting. America is on the fast track down, and to the truly savvy eye, the proof is not in the booming urban development and population influx, but rather the cold, indifferent, me-first nature of today's young to middle-age American. A perfect example is Seattle. It's a city that's growing like gangbusters on paper, yet for all its self-righteous intellectual decadence and hedonistic luxury, it is home to a dearth of socially maladjusted, snootily aloof, self-important, narcissistic types that wouldn't know the meaning of character and individuality if a Merriam-Webster fell out of the sky and conked 'em on the skull cap.

I can do better than that. And what's more I shall. I shall! -intrepidly raises his index towards the sky--

.....I am the last American man.
Yes, you truly are the specialist snowflake...

I do see the point the OP is trying to make, though it comes off as somewhat dramatic. A lot of you proved him right by calling him racist or bringing politics into this.

I see it a lot on here and other forums.

When a minority(black, hispanic) looking for suggestions posts criteria wanting to be in an area with mostly blacks/hispanic = simply looking for a city they feel comfortable in.

When a white person wants to be in a mostly white area = Racist/Bigot.

I can say all the major/trendy cities are basically the same - they all think making progress means being politically correct. The mindset in most, if not all big/progressive cities is this: Recycle/Ride bikes - if you dont that means you hate the earth! Go vegan- if you dont you are a horrible person who hates animals. There is so much pressure to be politically correct nowadays and and everyone preaches how tolerant and open minded they are. Yeah, they are so tolerant all right = as long as you agree with their views and opinions. If you dont, you are labeled a bigot, a racist, a crazy republican, backwoods, or uneducated.

Another thing that is in big cities is the unhealthy obsession with technology/smartphones/Apple. People now are like zombies when they are glued to their phones, which is the majority of the time. They have gotten so shallow and materialistic, putting Instagram and SnapChat first, over actual physical interaction. Just think about Black Friday - the very next day after Thanksgiving, a day that is about how thankful and appreciative you are, is a day that is all about standing in a long line wasting your day away, fighting (in some cases killing) with people just to get 20% off that newest, shiniest gadget which they will soon declare to be outdated and not good enough in probably less than 5 months. It is sick, really.

The OP simply wants to escape all this.. somewhere where it is less noticeable or not as severe. The insults and name calling need to stop. You disagree with him, fine. But be civil. You are exactly the people he wants away from. Because this is the mentality most of you commenting have - Wow, he does not think like me so he must be an idiot or a troll. Shoot, I do not blame the guy.

The OP made his own bed. He appeared to have the same dismissive and arrogant attitude towards other beliefs that you are accusing the posters in this thread of. Of course you don't see where he went wrong because you side with him.

Brilliant post. You nailed why I can't stand Trendy and the Midwest is my #1 relocation spot.

Please, no Texas, but hopefully any smaller, out-of-the-way city that still remembers and celebrates its national heritage.

Thanks!

That's funny, because as I was reading and scrolling down, once I saw the words "mega man" I somehow simply -knew- I was about to get jabbed at and attacked. I knew that because I know who is who on here and who stands for what. You are merely a type. -The- type at that. Lay not your waste at my door.

I'm glad others noticed the very sordid ilk of folk I speak towards crop up out of the woodwork and start gunning for an 'opposer' of the popular cause/style/trend/thought process.
