I'll definitely disagree with this. Louisiana is Southern, but most of Florida is not Southern.
And Florida is much less Southern than in the past. Even Miami felt like a Southern city up until the mid 1980's. Now everything from Orlando south feels like a blend between Northeastern U.S. and Latin America. You hear more New York and Colombian accents than Southern ones.
In 150 years, the state will probably be overwhelmingly Hispanic, not Southern in feel.
I still consider Florida to be southern, but "New South" like Atlanta and Charlotte.
Louisiana is different from other Southern states, but it is still most definitely Southern. In fact it's Deep South.
And most of Louisiana is the same as neighboring states. Only southern Louisiana is different. Really you're not describing the state as a whole, but just the part south of I-10 (which is like 15-20% of the state).
Correct. From Alexandria(Central LA) up to Shreveport(North LA) its pretty much East Texas, which is as typically "Southern" as possible. From Lafayette down to New Orleans and even further south, I can understand the OP's impression

Ok it's time for "the map" read it and weep.....girls and boys!! It's the boundaries between what I call the "upland south" and the lower midwest and also the "upland south with the "deep south" ...as you can see, all of Louisiana fits comfortably in the deep south....
Yeah but Texas is not the South so clearly comparing LA to TX won't work.
Notice I said East Texas. East Texas is most certainly, without question the South. More specifically, notice that I compared the Northern part of LA to East Texas. South LA, on the other hand, is beyond compare.

Yuck! Do not compare my home state to either of those cities. My god the differences are in the thousands, and the vast majority of Floridians want nothing to do with the south. We aren't "New South". We are Florida.

Most Southern things I do find quite foul.
But that is besides the point. I responded the way I did because putting any of peninsular Florida(where 80% of the states population is) in the same grouping as Atlanta is just bogus. Atlanta is the city in America that I dislike the most so I got a little heated.
