I need advice. I am looking to move from OK to either MN or WI, But which one is better? Best paying jobs? Cost of living? Housing affordability? Public education? Things to do for families? I work in the medical field by the way. Any advice would be appreciated.
It depends on the metro really and if you are going to buy a home. If buying a home, Minnesota is a good choice since they have lower property tax than Wisconsin. If renting, Wisconsin will have lower rent costs (as of right now), but not like Oklahoma.
If wanting a big city, then MSP. For medium sized city, do Madison.
Well, you posted this on the WI forums, so I suspect answers will skew one direction
That said, both MN/WI are big states, and it really depends on what sort of environment/amenities you're looking for. In general metro areas have more jobs than rural areas, like anywhere else. I'd suggest thinking about the type of scale/location you want and then have a more specific discussion about, say, LaCrosse vs. Mankato or St. Cloud vs. Madison.
If you're an MD (particularly a specialist) then COL frankly isn't going to matter much either way.
Median home price in Minneapolis and Madison are both in the 210-220k range. However one can easily spend 300k (or more) if looking for something higher end, or in a premium suburb, etc., and I would say the Twin Cities economy is easily stronger than Madison, however Madison has other appeals a giant metro might not.
Trade-offs.
Have to agree. Economy in MN is stronger that I know a lot of Univ of Wisconsin graduates that end up working in Minnesota. Other than Madison, I can attest that Minnesota would be a better option compared to Wisconsin.

For a small metro area, Appleton, WI has a low unemployment rate and sizable job growth. It is doing somewhat better economically compared to the other Fox River cities.

It depends on how important it is to be close to a major city or if she wants to be in city limits. I know the drive from there to Milwaukee will be at least an hour and a half. While there is an airport in Appleton, flight destinations are limited. Heck, none of their flights go to OKC. That might be a problem for her if she still anticipates to see her family in OK unless if she does connect flights. At least they do direct flights to MSP.
It's less funny than trying to make the feeble implication that Minnesota is a hot bed for terrorism?
Well, I didn't post that, but I have read articles that have stated that. SO, it's okay to make things up to counter something you don't like? That article is from your own newspaper.
SO, I guess this thread is going to turn ugly, as many comparison threads do. I don't think the OP was looking for that...I made a contribution, which I felt was valid. I'm not going to resort to name-calling, demeaning, or lying. Maybe others could try that, too.
When I started looking for a place to relocate, Lakeville, MN was high on my list. If you look at my early posts and read the threads, the MPLS crowd can't even agree with each other. My question threads usually ended with two or three of them in some heated battle over who was being more offensive, completely ignoring the original question.
I posted an ARTICLE from the Star Tribune (of MPLS) with FACTS. I was being a bit cheeky, but as you can see, the MPLS crowd is quick to rush in and start slandering. If that is what the OP is looking for in neighbors, then Minnesota is obviously the better choice.
