Every city is "ideally situated." The "close to ___" can vary in impressiveness of course.

"Silicon____"

After Silicon Valley, cities like Salt Lake City, Omaha, Raleigh, Austin, and more are being referred to as a Silicon Something. Truth is, none of them can or ever will compare to Silicon Valley CA.

Natural disasters don't occur in my city/state, but when they do, it's no big deal, we can handle it (we are tough).

Natural disasters occur everyday in your city/state and they are the end of the world.

" " is a liberal, blue state.

" " is a conservative, red state.

There are MANY liberals and MANY conservatives in EVERY state. These faux labels are the result of the electoral college, which needs to be done away with like the plague of old.

Kid/Family friendly is a euphemism for dull. I've traveled to Miami and New Orleans with small children, and found them incredibly family friendly. Lots of activities for children. Most of the places I've heard referred to as family friendly tend not to have much going on at all.

This is a great point. What place isn't family friendly? Even Vegas tends to bend over backwards to offer activities for kids. For God's sake, one major casino has an indoor theme park called the Adventuredome that includes a Spongebob ride. Its website has a prominent "Click Here to Book Your Birthday Party" button, featuring a bunch of preteens with a cake and balloons. And Vegas is the least "family friendly" city I can think of.

A few weeks ago, I was in Provincetown, Massachusetts, a town well known as a gay mecca, its main drag lined with endless gay bars and banners hanging over the street advertising upcoming parades led by shirtless, well-muscled men. There were families (straight and gay) with young kids everywhere.

Yeah but I think it's more to pay homage to the Bay Area, but there's probably a tinge of arrogance for sure.

SLC = Silicon Slopes?
Austin = Silicon Hills
Omaha =Silicon Plains?
