Downtown Jersey City has at least three very distinct districts. There's Newport, featuring highrise condos/apartments, hotels, shops, restaurants, and a mall. Then there's Exchange Place/Paulus Hook, which features the city's tallest office and condo towers and lower-rise brownstones and new brownstonish buildings. Newport and Exchange Place are along the Hudson waterfront. Then there's "Historic Downtown" which is composed of mostly brownstone rowhouses, lower-rise condo and apartment buildings, boutique shops, bars, restaurants, and most of the city's nightlife. Exchange Place and Newport are dead at night, "Historic Downtown" is where people go out.

Thirty years ago the story was different. The heart of the city was up in Journal Square, away from Downtown altogether. JSQ has declined in the past few decades, but newspapers claim it's the next or new hipster hotspot.

Even Go Ne agreed with me. Wow, that hurt to type.

He also gave me rep points, so it was a draw. My point is still valid. Which is this:

I used to live in Dundee and the thought of someone calling it more vibrant than downtown Omaha is just laughable. Why shouldn't someone call out the Omaha posters when they post nonsense? This little clique is constantly going on about how they know Omaha isn't New York or Chicago, and how glad they are about it, but at the same time they keep trying to interject Omaha into as many threads as possible and paint a picture of it that doesn't mesh with reality. They can't have it both ways. If they are allowed to constantly keep hyping the place even in threads where it doesn't make sense, then they will have to accept criticism. It's ridiculous how much attention this very average mid-sized city gets on this board and I say that as a native.
